Did we ever think?

After seeing that the 100,000 post mark had been reached today, I ask Jeff, and Dan, Sparty, Pete, Walt and anyone else who was here from the begining... did you really think it would ever get this big? I mean, thats just amazing, with that many posts, in only 4 years? I'm glad Jeff took the time in 1998 to make this site (well the old domain) and start these forums, and I'm glad now that he takes the time to take incredible pictures, and moderate, and update the site, along with coaster buzz. So congrats out to all the members, but more importantly, YOU JEFF!

Wow.... I thought that guy was joking when he said "for those keeping track at home." There ARE people keeping track at home! ;)

I saw the title of this thread, and the answer that popped into my head was, "No," since it's such a meaningless title.

But anyway, that total doesn't count the threads from the old UBB back in the day.

I, on the other hand, looked at the title and took it for face value.

And after some introspection, I believe that there may be a few posters (you know who you are) who would have to honestly answer "no".

I would really like to see the old ubb, I know it is not possible but it would be very interesting to read all that old stuff. Good ole rollercoaster.nu ;)

As a new forum browser I am amazed at the turn out you have had at this site since the news of (???) started .Way to go. I am deeply impressed.

(I am easily impressed)

The history of the internet is funny. "Back in the day" is only talking about what? Less than 10 years?

I remember going on to the internet, or a version of it, back in 1990 or so. The thing took a life of its own.

What's even funnier is all the kiddies who don't remember life before the Internet. You know, when we had to actually leave the house to interact with people?

I never thought it would get this big. I remember the early days, and thinking it's really cool to have this site to talk about Cedar Point, and hoping it would be around for awhile. Well, it has, and has grown beyond any of my expectations.

Florida may have Disneyworld and Key West,
but Ohio has Cedar Point and Put-In-Bay.
It's great to live in Ohio!

Here, here, Jeff. My son, at 16, has no idea what life was like before the internet. Whereas my generation spent our youth relating with friends face to face, cruising in our cars, meeting at each other's houses and listening to music and chatting, kids these days do most of their socializing on line.

On the other hand, we now have an abundance of information literally at our fingertips. Whereas there may be few people in our social circle who have the same interests that we do, on the internet you can find hundreds who are as passionate about something as we are.

How many 16-20 year olds would want to associate with someone 30 years older than they are? I've discovered several who would, because we've got the same interest: a passion for rollercoasters.

As in anything in life, there are good and bad points. Hopefully they even each other out.

Well, sure he doesn't....but some of us can even remember life before electric can openers, right? :P

No electric can openers, only 4 channels on TV, and vinyl records...and I'm not just talking albums, but 45's and 78's.

How about when air conditioning was a luxury instead of a necessity. And, what the heck---lets add Duck n Cover to that.

Electric can openers are still optional, as far as I'm concerned. We also have some 78s somewhere, but I inhereted those.

Beloit college in Wisconsin publishes something called a Mindset List, highlighting the life experiences of each year's incoming freshman class. Here are some of the more interesting ones for the college class of 2006.

5. We have always been able to choose our long distance carriers.

8. "Big Brother" is merely a television show.

22. The U.S. and the Soviets have always been partners in space.

29. This generation has never wanted to "be a Pepper too."

Anybody remember Capt. Video?

Must've been after I stopped watching TV. I remember Captain Kangaroo, though!

Well lets see, I still use a hand held, non electric can opener. I see no reason to buy an electric one (although it would have been nice when I broke my shoulder a year ago). Also, I live without air conditioning as do most of the people in my community. Yes, I know that I live in Northern Michigan, but it can get pretty darn hot up here in the summer sometimes.

As far as this site is concerned, I can't believe that I have been visiting here for as long as I have been. I started visiting Guide to the Point (Popworld at the time) before I moved to my current location and I have now lived here for four and a half years.

...and enjoy the rest of your day at Cedar Point, The Am-aaaa-zement park!

I don't have an electric can opener either. They always break so instead of buying one for $30 each time, it's cheaper just to get a good manual one and take the extra 3 seconds to open the can. Plus it's builds finger strength!

As for this place, I don't know if it has goten that much bigger in terms of active members since I came 2 years ago. Probably becuase because most don't say much since the most interesting thing to talk about lately is can openers. ;)
