Demon Drop

Ok I have seen things all over about this ride. That Dolly Parton is getting the ride for her park that the Big Dipper will replace it or that it will simply be scraped. There have been rumors of this rides future since Power Tower opened. First off it really dosn't say welcome to Cedar Point any more and it's somewhat weird that they would keep both PT and DD seeing as how the green tower and DD are so much alike. On the other hand DD is fun and unique. So someone please tell me what is the deal.

They are nothing alike. One is a vertical launch downward, the other one is a free-fall ride. Not even close to the same thing.

Demon Drop is a classic ride--it will be part of CP for a long time.

^ - I wouldn't say that. It is widely known that it is up for sale, and I'm sure as soon as the park can find a buyer or a better use for the land, it will be gone. That's not to say it won't be sorely missed and that I don't want it to be around for a long time, its just that the evidence says otherwise.

It would be very strange walking into the park and having Demon Drop not there, however I can't say I would miss the ride. I would just miss the fact that it's there. I don't see it staying there too much longer, I will guess 4 more years.

In beef for clothes.

I'm a big Demon Drop fan, and even though it is for sale, I don't know who would really want to buy a dated free-fall ride. With all the money they'd need to insure it and operate it, they may as well just get a newer model.

I actually prefer Demon Drop over Power Tower. PT feels too much like a giant bouncing ride. Demon Drop is suspenseful from the minute it takes you up slowly to the top, to when it slowly pushes you forward, and you actually have an intimidating fall due to the fact that it just lets you free fall. But on the drop side of power tower you hear all of the compressed air going and it's totally predictable. Demon Drop has the mechanic drop sound and then you get some G's on your back and it's a crazy ride. I'm not trying to give a detailed description of how the rides work, but these are just some of the things I notice when riding the two rides, and I really hope DD stays at the Point for as long as possible.

Demon Drop is totally predictable...when you lock forward in place, count 1, 2, 3 drop...same every time.

Even if turbo drop of power tower does drop at exactly the same interval every time, I'd like to see you count that one down and get it the same everytime.

I cant get off DD without holding my head.
Though I will be saddened when it does eventually go, seeing how big a part of CP history it is.

Why cant they move it? It doesnt take up that much room. As good as CP is with moving rides around to make more space; I'm sure they could fit it in somewher in FT. They could theme it to look like a mine shaft ad some fire or something exciting before you drop and it would be an amazing ride.

Where they would put it I have no idea, but CP could find a way.

Apparently it requires quite a bit of maintenance. Who knows if they would of even kept it this long if they hadn't gotten the spare parts from Mr. Hyde's Nasty Fall. That one was also for sale, but they gave up on selling that it, parted it out for Demon Drop and scrapped the rest.

Does Intamin even provide support for their Free-fall's anymore?

What ever happened to that story about the teenage girl from Las vegas who supposedly bought demon drop with her pocket money and was having it shipped back to vegas so she could set it up in her yard behind her apartment? :)

It was probably right after the one where the mom said her husband died in Iraq so her daughter could win Hannah Montana tickets.

Demon Drop may not look very good but I would say it is still a pretty cool ride. I like to get scared on rides and this one does it the best. Every time we roll forward at the top I know its coming and then BAM, you feel insane weightlessness for a few seconds...
