Yet another reason that SF:WOA should NOT have whales or really any kind of Animals at their sealife park Busch Gradens actually kind of knew what they were doing SF however does not have a damn clue.

Hold on here... Busch has an excellent track record overall with their animals. Given the whale's age, it may have been just that.
Keep in mind that most whales in captivity were born there or captured long before such bans on capturing them were established. Given that situation, you can't release them back into wild because they don't have the instinct or desire to live in the ocean. Look at Kieko (Free Willy), who has been "trained" to live on his own. He won't do it, he always returns to his pen to be with people.
