Dead trees by Magnum

Here's a pickle. What green thumb decided to cut the tops of the pines around Magnum's exit? That has to be one of the dumbest things I've ever seen. Gee, what do you suppose will happen, will the trees die?

It's a shame too, as the area around the Magnum plaza was looking very green these days.

Actually those pines look super green compared to the first week. Someone shaved them so far down they did not look like tree's!

Joe E is right. They are already sprouting. I noticed it this weekend.

Yea, you can cut trees like that and they will recover just fine. It just takes them some time.
They had them hacked down back in February already.

The things that happen to trees at Cedar Point is something that just makes you shake your head in wonder. I gasped when I saw the Magnum trees. Ditto trees that were trimmed by CP&LERR, just FT station/pre-Boneville. OK, I'm no tree trimmer, but I think I know ugly when I see it. "What green thumb...?" That's funny, Webmaster Jeff!

Can anyone Point me to a real Cedar tree anywhere on the CP peninsula, or have they all been axed? Woodsman, spare that tree!! *** This post was edited by Carousel Man on 5/30/2001. ***
A lot of evergreen trees can actually be helped by trimming off the tops -- it forces them to "bush out" and grow thicker. We had to do this with a tree I planted in the backyard once, and it looks better every year.

If you cut off the top - known as the apical meristem - of a tree, it will indeed "bush out," often forking. Generally one stem will take over and become the new apical meritem, but the tree will never have that "perfect" pine look again.

CP will never have a space problem ... as long as there are more trees to chop down.
