Dates of the "Great Power Outage" over the summer?

I was in Johnny Rocket's eating some chilli fries, and then my friend and I went to Soak City and they made the announcement that the park was staying open another hour, we were pissed because we HAD to leave.
I think it was in either 2000 or 1999 there was a big power outage in the front of the park....basically everything from North Skyride to the front of the park was out of power. It was really eerie

I remember the first power outage (July 1st) vividly cause i had to go up the lift where the train stopped. It was very very hot that day and i went up and down that lift 3 times so that i could get water to the guests. There was one little girl i was especially worried about cause she was so scared. I spent most of my time talking to her.
Let me also tell you how incredibly pissed everyone in the park was at having to work the extra hour that night. Not that it was the guests fault.
The second outage was quite interesting cause I watched all the rides surrounding Blue Streak go into complete darkness. Blue Streak is on a different breaker so we still had lights. Let me tell you how creepy that was.
There was one other time there was a storm and all the rides were down. I was in charge and i had my crew busy cleaning whatever they could find. In the middle of our cleaning, a lightning bolt hit the telephone pole directly next to the bottom of the BS lift hill. It was so amazingly loud. But, we were given our own personal fireworks show when it happened. LOL

I saw a picture a several years ago in an Ohio newspaper that showed a waterspout (tornado) just off the beach at Sandcastle Suites. The article was written by an Amusement Park Reviewer who was riding at Magnum at the time and spotted the tornado. Anybody remember this?
I remember the BIg power outage July 1st 2002. I was working on monster and suddenly it got really quiet. I had no idea the power had gone out until i tried starting the ride.Frankly it didn't start. None of us there had realized anything was wrong until we tried starting and one of our crew members from witches wheel ran over to tell us the power went off there. Shortly after that I had to seend a crew man on a break and he was working all day. He went back to commmons, and when he came back he had the best reaction when I told him we all had to stay an extra hour.

Point4life Just thought i'd through my two cents in here a waterspout and a tornado are not the same thing a waterspout is just that a waterspout.... now if it would of touched down onto ground than it would of been considered a tornando someone a few posts up said somthing about seeing the sky turn green thats pretty scary but what u really need to worry about is if there is hail.. that means a tornado could drop out of the sky at any time
What happens to the coasters when the power goes out? Do the brakes just automatically go closed to stop the train or what because don't they need power to open, close, etc?

From what I understand, the brakes on the rides are spring loaded and require power to stay open. When they lose power, the brakes snap shut. Just another nice safety feature.

I remember those power outages, the first one I was working in the Breakers and the lights went out and the computers went down. We had to check guests in by hand for a while, that sucked so bad. The second one me and my co-worker had gone to Soak City and the sky turned colors and we left. I lived in Gold dorms, I remember I had just taken a shower and was in the bathroom brushing my teeth and the lights went out. I didn't know what happened! I just sat in the room, lit some (illegal) candles because it was so dark, and rested. It was interesting to hear everyone outside yelling, and I think there was a fire alarm going off in building 2. The next day at work everyone was mad and wanted a refund and we were like "sorry, act of nature, not our fault!" They weren't too happy. That was one of the most exciting times I had that summer, besides the time when a family of 13 yelled at every single desk clerk at the hotel, but that's a different story for a different time... ;-)
I'd love to hear that story...

I own you!

If you want I can email you the story, I don't want to clog up the message board with something off topic. :-) (Which yes I know I'm doing with this...)
