Curious Question ?

I realise this forum is about CP and dont wanna upset anyone by changing subject slightly...
But as a coaster fan here in UK, i just wondered if any of you folk other there have ever visited any parks and ridden coasters over here in UK ??
I know and agree that you have the worlds best coasters and parks in the USA but we do have some great rides and parks here, such as Alton Towers, Blackpool, Thorpe and many others. We do have 3 original B+M coasters, a cool Arrow hyper and many other top rides. And currently confirmed rumours and plans for the worlds first 400ft tera-coaster at Blackpool (i so hope this comes off) Also 2 new B+M Coasters due to open in march, both world record breakers. Which isnt a bad set of coasters for our little island, probably the size of Ohio alone... lol

All this said i cannot wait for 31 days-time when i get to try out CP for myself. I am just curious to know whether any of you had ridden any of the UK Coasters?

One day (sigh).

Of course, first I'll have to learn to speak the language ;)

Tera-coaster huh? That should be interesting...hopefully they keep that name for a 400 hundred footer. That's what many of us thought it should be called. At least we could distinguish them easily. (hyper, giga, tera)
For those who need names for the inevitable 500- and 600-foot coasters:

A thousand Terabytes is a Petabyte.
A thousand Petabytes is an Exabyte.

So be on the lookout soon for Peta-Coasters and Exa-Coasters!

Mmmmm..... Peta-coaster

hehe

Yeah, the UK does seem to have a very good selection of rides. Man, what I would give to ride Nemisis... :)

Its great to hear you say you would like to ride Nemisis / Oblivon as i always sit here wanting to ride US coasters... lol
I can confirm both of them are awesome rides (albeit short) but no doubt excellent examples of B+M Magic. We are all waiting with baited breathe to march 22nd next year, when B+M and Alton Towers unleash the new coaster...

Which is a worlds first B+M Flying coaster, half underground and strongly rumoured to have a launched hill (speculation on vertical?) the ride is due to feature fire and water elements in tunnel theming.. Book your tickets to merry England Guys.
Then i can give some tours to ppl.....lol

I would really like to visit Blackpool. I'm a fan of old and/or unusual rides and it seems there are quite a few goodies there. The Steeplechase looks particulary appealing. I wish Arrow had orders for more of these.
I've noticed that the UK seems to have a higher "coaster density" than anywhere in the US, including Ohio; I can't wait to visit! Of course, that's a few years off, I'm sure. In the meantime, Nemesis, Oblivion, and Megaphobia will still be at the top of my "to ride" list!

Europe will get a awfull lot of great coasters. Every year more coasters are build. A list of the coming year:

2001 Colossos, expedition G-force, Werewolf, Cobra

2002 B&M hyper, B&M laydown (SW5), superman, batman the ride, rock´n rollercoaster, wildwildwest, twister, B&M (port aventura), Flying dutchman, 2 woodies and more steel coasters

2002 will open 2 new parks, Disney Studios in paris and WarnerBros movie world in Madrid. Also one of the walibi parks will tranform in SixFlags France and get at least 2 extra coasters.

René

We might go to London within the next couple of years. Does anyone know what great parks are in London or a short distance away by rail? (The British rail system, you can't beat it!)

I would love to ride Nemesis, it looks incredible.  Also, Expedition GeForce in Germany looks outstanding.  Next time I'm in Europe, I'm hitting as many coasters as I can.

I went to London and Paris 2 years ago.  The closest I got to a coaster was the London Eye and going 200 mph on the high speed train in the Chunnel.

There aren't any actual parks in London itself, But 2 reasonable theme parks 10/15 miles out of London accessible by train/tube. One is "Chessington World of Adventures" and the other is "Thorpe Park" both owned and run by Tussuads, the major player in parks over here, who also own Alton Towers. Niether of the parks have major coasters as such, but very good selection of family coasters, and good thrill rides (free-falls, Top-Spins, Water + Dark Rides) CWOA has one major coaster but is sadly closed for redesign until 2002. And Thorpe has construction currently going on for a 10 Inversion Intamin coaster opening next year (world record).

However if you in London, one thing i would reccomend you visit in the centre of the city is the Pepsi-Drop ride, which is a 130ft free-fall tower drop in the centre of a major shopping centre, which is a buzz when you get to top it holds you whilst familys shop around you on top storey, then it plummets up to 50mph down past 5-6 floors of shopping malls which is weird site.. lol.  Its in the "Trocadereo" shopping centre in Picadilly Circus right in the very heart of London.

Hope this helps, If you wanna know any more, let me know, as i live near London and work everyday in London. If i think of anything else i will post it.

I would love to ride Nemesis. I've seen it on television several times and it looks like an incredible coaster. I am also looking forward to seeing photos/videos of the new B&M flyer at Alton Towers. Is Blackpool really putting in a 400ft. coaster? Wow! Are they just about out of room?

You'll have a lot of fun at CP!
