Crowd Control

I just wonder if this is a problem at Kings Island (Cedar Point Gods forgive me for speaking of the evil one's name) because it had more guest than CP. I think cuting off people will be okay as long as they do it at a certain time. That way if they come and CP doesn't take them it is not CP problem that the people came too late. I was at Cedar Point when there was a natual Disaster. There was a Tornado Warning and the park had to be evacuated. I think they did a very good job. My friends who were in the back of the park got out in about 20 minutes and the park was evacuated within 25 minutes

PKI had barely 100,000 more people last season, yes. Keep in mind they also have a significantly longer operating season.

The water spout incident was not a natural disaster, or even a disaster at all, seeing as how the spouts never landed.

And what's this about the park being evacuated? Twisters abound and you want to send people packing to their cars? I don't think so.

I don't remember anyone refering to it as a natural disaster either. Nor do i remember a mandatory evacuation of the park. I remember doing everything that i could to make sure that the guests were safe. I remember standing in the midway right by the IMAX telling people that standing under boxes where the laser show are only store close to 30,000 volts of electricty and probebly isnt the best place to be. Then i remember some of my fellow employees giving up rainsuits, sweatshirts, and anything they could to little kids who were looking for there parents in tears scared for their lives. Then these same employees were helping people get out of harms way. Does anyone remeber people being put in the freezers and stands and anywhere that wasnt outdoors?

Then like every other time it rains, 20 min later it was gone and the park started checking the rides for safety and we all had a nice a day.

In closing -- Natural disaster i think not, a lot of team work from the employees for your safety i think so.
Job well done, wagon boy. There's just one thing...don't forget about the Hot Dog Cart! :)
Yes the hot dog cart... Opps!! Guess common sense hasnt kicked in for everyone yet....Poor child...

Anyway, did anyone see the hot dogg cart in the park this year? :) *** This post was edited by Wagonboy on 1/8/00. ***
Yeah storms were fun...we got to run around like idiots with plastic gloves on our radios trying to push big wagons off the midway as rain was coming at us sideways, praying that the rain would stop or that we would have everything taken care of in enough time to get a dry uniform from wardrobe before they closed! As for those water spouts...I would love to comment on those but I had a hard time getting out of the office with the 50 guests that were crammed in the hallway, but hey, as long as everyone was safe, right? And while we were on the subject of missing things, Wagonboy...where was BAD JOHNNY??? :) *** This post was edited by ZONE THIRTYFOUR on 1/8/00. ***
BJ ??? Once rescued, lets just say home SWEET home with his family...
As it should be, wagonboy, as it should be...

I made it a "point" (no pun intended!) this past season to go on specific days and "track" the crowds to remember for this season. No matter how crowded CP has gotten (and it has been PACKED on some of my visits-and I NEVER set foot in that park on ANY weekend-oops-except Halloweekends)
I think CP does an awesome job at keeping the lines moving-a personal note here-
people who drive to CP for a "yearly weekend visit" expect long lines-expect to ride their fav rides 1x (but ride ALL of them) and go home happy. A 2 hour wait is NOTHING to them. I think for the most part we all are spoiled-I know after riding my beloved Raptor 31x in one day having to wait an hour the next day for 1 ride KILLED me! Riding Mantis 4x in 30 minutes-then having to wait 1.5 hours the next day KILLED me! (also listening to "you can call me Al" was murder!!)
But some people are used to the long waits-even for the food. I generally pack all my food and take it in the park (to save mula) but any time I have ever buckled down (or was just too lazy to walk back to the picnic area) and bought a drink or munchie the wait wasnt all that bad. These things are expected...
CP does an awesome, awesome job even on its most busy of days-alot of the delay is once the riders get to the platform-arguing on "where we going to sit-we have to ride with them-we have to have the front seat-I dont know how to do my seatbelt-(keeping in mind the ride ops have explained all this 100,000x by the time you get to the platform-had you been listening you would know how to do your seatbelt and how to get it off once the ride was over!!!)
and of course this in turn causes stacking
(MANTIS!!!) which for the most part is caused by the riders-not the ride ops.....
I have been to PKI tons o'times
their food sucks
their picnic area reminds me of a patch of left over safari land - it is NOT nice and quite a hike from the park-
you can not step FOOT on PKI with any food or drink in your ??????? ???? ??? ???? ??? ??? ???? ?? ???? ?????? ???? ??? ??? ?????? ?? ????? ???????????? ???? ?? ?????????? ??? ?????????????????? ????????? ?? ???? ?? ????? ????? ????????????? ???? ????????? ??????? ? ?? ????? ???????? ???? ??? ????? ?? ??? ?? ??????? ??? ?????? ??? ??? ???????????? ??? ??? ??????? ??? ??? ???? ??? ??? ?????? ???? ??? ?? ??? ??????? ??????? ??? ?? ??? ?????? ???????? ? ?????? ???? ?????? ?????? ? ????? ?? ???? ??? ????? ????? ?? ??? ??? ???? ??? ?? ???? ??? ????? ??? ????? ????? ??? ??? ????? ???? ??? ? ??? ???? ????? ??? ????? ??? ???? ???? ????? ?????? ??? ?????? ?? ??? ?????? ???? ????????????? ??? ??????? ?? ???? ???? ???? ??? ? ????? ?????? ??? ???? ? ???? ???? ??????????????????????? ?? ??? ?????????????? ??? ??????? ?? ????? ??????????? ????? ?? ???? ?? ??????? ??? ???? ????? ????? ????????????? ????? ??????? ???? ???? ?? ????????? ???? ???? ???? ???????? ??? ?? ?? ?? ?? ? ????? ???? ??? ?????????????????? ????? ???? ??? ??? ???? ??? ?????????????????? ? ???? ???? ?? ???????????????? ???? ???? ??? ?? ?? ? ??????????????????????????????????????????????????? ???? ?????? ?????????? ??? ???? ??????????? ??? ???? ???? ??? ?????? ?? ????????? ?? ???? ? ???
Their is a strategy to the park. Guide to the Point has one for the coasters but most people do more than the coasters. Use common sense and you will not mind the crowds. Go eat at Kiddy Kingdoms food stand if you like footlongs, pizza, or Grilled Cheese. Avoid any food stands on the Main Midway and eat before (never after) the crowds. Then go on the rides (Strong stomach?) after while they are eating. PKD, the worst food services and the worst way to run a park! They close all food stand with the exception of three after 5. You can only buy Turkey, Hamburgers, and drinks. They do not let you bring food into the park and walking around hungry until ten makes you feel like one of those guys in RCT ("I'm Hungry, I'm Thirsty"). The lines move fast on most coasters at this park but eat early and plan to stand in line!

Actually I wasn't refuring to the water spout. It occured in 1998 I believe and they had to get everyone out of the park because of a tornado warning. It was pretty scary cause there were kids getting lost and things like that.
Well now i think your a confussed individual.

The water spouts were in '98. There are tornado warnings every year not to mention water spouts (most i saw were early am off the coast)

But i still dont EVER recall a park evac.

I am all for limit the number of people that can be in the park, on a few occasions, I have left the park due to the "over crowding". Busch Gardens does this also, and I would rather be turned away then stand in line forever, plus if i was already in the park, I know that the rides wouldnt be nearly as long due to crowd control

Ride it hard, long, and furious!

I know what he is talking about. When a tornado hit Sandusky (or near it) in (I think) 1998 or 1999. I was there two days after and it was pretty bad. I will never probably get to see cars floating in the Sandusky Bay again.

What are you smoking? Put down the crack flakes this morning! A tornado warning was issued that day for waterspouts, none of which landed. There were no actual tornadoes over land. There were no cars in the bay or cows flying around, and Helen Hunt is still not a good actress.

Here's the story:

Give your imagination a rest, eh?

The crowd control is fine. I went to Cedar Point late August last year and the longest line was for Mantis and that was only 45 minute to get up front. Raptor took 30 minutes to get up front. I was quite proud of myself because I rode Raptor, Mantis, Power Tower, and Magnum all 3 times. I also rode Gemini, Meanstreak, and Corkscrew all once. Cedar Point has the best crowd control probably in the country if not the whole world.

i was there the second week of operation last year and we still waited almost 2 hours for Raptor at 10:30 a.m. and again around 2p.m.
seemed like everyone in the park was waiting for Raptor. on a Sunday morning, no less. and we even waited about 75 minutes for Blue Streak of all things around 1 p.m. the day before. it was kind of drizzly that day, so maybe folks were just staying by the exits or something...no waterspouts/tornadoes to report.

"I think I scrambled my brain!!"
Yup a car in the bay. It was in the part by that bridge.
