Creating a PointBuzz Type Geauga Lake site

Now with Geauga Lake under the Cedar Fair umbrella, and with the proximity of the two parks and their similarities, I was wondering if any of the staff members of Pointbuzz would be able to make a similar site for Geauga Lake, or a Geauga Lake section for this site.

I do not know of any Geauga Lake sites even approaching the quality of this site (or even Guide to the Point and possibly Virtual Midway before this), and would love to have some of the features such as a discounts page and an FAQ.

Is there anyone willing to tackle the project? I don't know if I will be allowed because of working at GL, as I am not really supposed to comment about the park. But I would love a place where I can direct my friends, when they want information about the park that I just can't give them.

Thanks ahead of time,

Sam

There are several sites, one in particular, that has the infromation Avalanche Sam is looking for. Just do a search for geauga lake today to find it.

Sam,

Although I'm not a staff member here, I would be a willing member to help you out.

I may not be to knowledgeable about the park or surrounding area, but I'd love to help you come up with ideas and other things as well as with moderating.

If you'd like some help, I'm here for you. :D

I've gone down that road before hosting another site's forum... it'll never happen again.

I would be more than willing to take on some of the web site creation/webmaster duties. I was thinking of doing this before, but the problem is that I don't know much about Geauga Lake, and would need a great group of people to help me out with most of the park information.

Just a reminder that site plugging in the forums is prohibited. Don't get all nutty about it and take it personal either. I won't set that kind of precedent because then everyone will want to do it.

Jeff, Could you please explain why the plugging of other forums is prohibited? I notice you even plug another site in your signature. Avalanche Sam asked a good question and its quite possible that others were not aware of sites that have information regarding GL. I would like to think that answering the question by showing these sites is perfectly valid. Obviously if you were posting about sites that had nothing to do with the main post I can see your point. Why are you trying to keep this information away form others? You know Jeff there are other sites just as good as yours out there. *** Edited 5/14/2004 3:19:12 AM UTC by coasterdad***
CoasterDad..I stumbled onto your site a few weeks ago. Very much enjoyed the pics of GL from the 70's and 80's. Did not notice if you had forums tho...

You need a thneed.

Why don't I allow it? I already explained it. After running sites like this for six years I can tell you it leads to every kid with a GeoCities site plugging the damn thing, and then there's no actual discussion. So I make it simple so that there's no question or interpretation. I just don't allow it.

I haven't reviewed the TOS in a while, so I might be a little fuzzy. IIRC, linking to a site in your signature is allowed as long as it's not obnoxious or uses promotional language. Plus, the sites that Jeff links to in his signature (which isn't showing up for me... do I need to turn on an option to display signatures?) are kind of owned by him. Since he kinda founded and runs the place, it's his option to do so.

I've been around for a while and every time I've seen one person's plug slip through the cracks and stay up for a while there have always been five or six more crappy geo****ties and angelfire sites that get plugged within hours. It's more hassle than it's worth.

I think there used to be a healthy following for GLP in the past, but much of that fanbase has been erroded.

I don't know for sure, but it seems to me that Jeff's site has a pretty good relationship with Cedar Point. It seems that CP likes having an enthusiast site around. Back around 2000 when the good GLP sites were popping up the park did everything it could to block out any site. I think that's why most of the GLP sites fell off the map (that and the park went into the tank). Any aknowledgment (and i don't mean special treatment over any other type of medium) would have made running a GLP fan site much more enjoyable. IMO, i would think that it would be somewhat difficult to put together a pointbuzz-type site together for this park at this time.

I do not agree with that, this would be the easiest time to have a GL site because of all the changes. People would be more interrested in the park and the site when somthing like this happens.

They would also be looking for a more organized and clean-cut site such as this instead of some site with wierd names for the different sections of the site.

Pictures would also be a real crowd-puller for the park, as everyone wants to see what's going on up there.

There's a section over at Coasterbuzz with latest sites. Not sure if you could request your site be put on there, but isn't that good enough?
