I dont think that Cedarpoint should let people through the turnstiles until the park actually opens at 10:00 am becuase it is MADNESS when they let the gates open and the people running everywhere..I dont understand why they dont just let people in at 9:30 like they used too..because all those people running at once every which way one of these times somebody is going to get hurt and when it becomes mid season and the big crowds start too come that is going to be a huge problem. What are your guys thoughts on this

What's the difference if they open them at 9:30 or 10:00? People are still going to be running to the rides they want to get on first. I've never understood this concept, but to each their own I guess.
And its not like this is the first year they've been doing this. Its been this way for quite a while

My guess would be that at 9:30, people won't be running to get to already operating rides, where as at 10, they're in a mad dash to get to them? I don't know, I guess. Either way, they end up in the same lines, waiting. It's like the phrase, "Hurry up and wait!"
Looking forward to Cedar Point- July 4th-5th, 2007!
It's a tradition.
If you dont like it, stand off to the side. You create the image of thousands of people bullrushing the park, when in reality, there is maybe (at most) a couple hundred.
It's not that dramatic.
Promoter of fog.
When I was there yesterday, I only saw a couple of people running to the rides. Unless a huge new coaster just opened, people don't usually run.
Jerreus - its different on different days. Opening day was nuts because it was opening day.
Today (a Monday) I'm sure was quite a bit different.
Take a look at "World's Largest Amusement Park". There is a pretty good size rush in that video.
And besides, if you keep everyone behind the turnstiles, that just turns that into a pinch point. It really is better to let people in and hold them back at the rope rather than having everyone try to jam through the turnstiles right at 10.

They don't let guests in at 9:30 like they used to because they now have the 1 hour ERT. I don't think it's any better when they open the actual gates and start taking tickets/passes at the park opening time.
There's plenty of room in most of those "holding areas." If you don't want to be a part of the "crazyness," then just hold back and allow everyone else to go ahead of you, then you can walk at your own leisure.

If anybody was at the marina entrance open day it was crazy. We all lined up and one person yelled "GO" and everybody ran to MF when nobody told us we could even leave. They were throwing the blue fence out into the flower bed. It was madness and also funny to see.
Ride On
Being the employee at the blue gates isn't a lot of fun on days when the crowd is huge. I do wish they'd give us some security to help out up there. A couple of the busier Halloweekends Saturdays last year I had several near stampedes long before the scheduled time for the gates to open. When you start to take the fence down, all you can really do is get out of the way and collect all the sections of it after the mob has done it's job. It's kinda funny to look back on, but when you're there in the moment, it can be scary.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
I've never been right at the gates at opening. Does it really get that crazy? I'm going on Sunday with a group of four. Two of us belong to JC, one still needs her photo ID for her pass and one is just getting a one-day ticket. We planned to separate for that hour so the two of us could use the ERT benefits and then meet up at ten, at Raptor but we may need a different plan if it truly gets that crazy. Of course, the definition of madness varies from person to person. I'm sure that once the crowd has passed (a few minutes?) we'll be able to find each other?
