Crazy Mom needs hotel help

Trying to be a supermom I let my 3 sons (14,11,8) plan our summer vacation, which they are calling the Great Roller Coaster Trip, travelling from Florida to CP, PKI, PKD and BGW. Trying to book a hotel online is making me crazy! Any suggestions for SAFE, clean, comfortable and reasonable. The admission tickets alone are blowing the budget so I'd like to save a little on a room. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Supermom,

Staying CP property is expensive, but you can find local hotels that are decent. I like the Microtel (major chain) of of Rye Beach Rd. which is only a few miles from the park, clean, about $80 a night and usually full of CP-ers. Its right off of the freeway too.

PKD has a major chain on site which was about 60-70 if I recall correctly. Easy to get to the park and they have a shuttle bus.

BGW is a beautiful park. We stay at a Motel 6 just 2 miles from the park in Williamsburg. It is a clean and safe area of hotels, decent restaurants, and outlet stores. We paid about $38 a night and were happy with it.

Hope that helps.

I suspect Sparty would discourage you from staying at the Microtel on Rye Beach, even though it's nice, because trains pass by very frequently all night long.

I stayed in that Microtel three nights last season, and was woken up by the trains a good 3-5 times a night. It is a very nice hotel, right off of rt 2, but I don't think I'm going to be staying there much this year just due to the fact that I couldn't sleep much.

Well, there's always the Breakers Express, which is around $80 mid season, as well as the Econolodge at the end of the causeway for around the same price. I'd just go to travelocity.com and see what's cheapest for the day you're planning to visit.

What are the cabins at Camper Village going for? There are some similar cabins at a campground off of route 2.
Breakers Express and Best Western get most of my off-Point business. The Best Western isn't the cheapest property around, but it has a Perkins for breakfast and it earns me frequent flyer miles :)

You may also want to call 1-800-BEST-FUN to get a Cedar Point Getaway Guide. It's has discount coupons for admission, food, games and hotel. It also lists the prices for the Point hotels and depending on when you are going, you might be able to take advantage of one of the packages the hotels offer. Enjoy your trip, it's sounds like a good one to me.

two words: Colonial Inn. I think it's Sandusky's best deal (close to the park too)

Disco Sucks!

Thanks for all the help. I'm already checking into all of it. We requested a brochure online weeks ago, but haven't seen anything yet. Appreciate the ideas, People either think this is a great trip or the biggest nightmare they can imagine. We're hoping for Great!

When are you making your trip? I was just curious since a few of the prices indicated here seem to be early or late season rates. I'm going next week and paying $38 bucks for my hotel. In the middle of the summer, its rare to find anything under $80 and most are closer to $100. There's two of just about every one of the Choice Hotels (Comfort, Sleep, Clarion, Econolodge, Rodeway, etc) in the area. Its easy to find their rates online. There's also lots of smaller hotels on Cleveland Rd (Rt. 6) that are probably cheaper. I haven't worked up the courage to stay in one of them yet though. :)

We'll be at CP June 2 - 5. Expereince tells me even the chain's level of quality varies greatly from one place to the next. I've been in Comfort Inns/Days Inns that are wonderful and seen some that are absolute dumps! I don't want to reserve online and pull up late at night and Gasp! I'm pretty adventuresome (4 parks, 40+ roller coasters in 10 days) but travelling alone with kids make me overly cautious.
One place I can tell you to avoid would be the Howard Johnson's at the end of the causeway. My family had a bad experience there and they did absolutely nothing to try to ensure our return business. Last summer, my family stayed at the Comfort Inn on Milan Rd. Basic, reasonably priced (not the cheapest), clean, and free continental breakfast. I also stayed at the Sleep Inn right next door (they're both right by Applebees) in October and I'd say it was comparable. The Comfort Inn was just under $100 in July and the Sleep Inn was less than $50 in October. Gives you an idea of the seasonal nature of business in Sandusky.

Try the Clarion Inn, near the mall in Sandusky, on route 250. It's relatively inexpensive, clean, and within 10 minutes of the park. My husband and I always stay there. If you're looking to save a few bucks, you might check it out.

The Comfort Inn on Rt. 6 at Rye Beach road was totally remodeled inside and out very recently. I haven't stayed there, but I bet it's one of the chain's nicer properties now.

It's very hard to drink all day...
Unless you start first thing in the morning.

I have stayed at the Seacrest Motel every year since 1989. It is not the ritz, but it is clean, cheap, and convenient. It is about a 5-7 minute ride to the park. There is nowhere else, that I have found, with rates of $60-70 per weeknight in July. I am going in June and I am paying only $36 a nite. They have a website, but you cannot make online reservations, www.seacrestmotel.com. There are rooms with 1,2,and 3 double beds. I like the location because it's close to everything, but in a residential area.
