crazy ace idea

this just came to me minute ago. i know this doesn't have anything with Cedar Point, but what the hey. this would use the same 4-rail principle as X. a motorcycle coaster! the rider would lay on a superbike (4 wide, 7 long) with restraints coming out the side of the gas tank. they would be like wearing a vest backwards.
now to the 4-rails. on some turns, the tracks would stary flat, but the smaller rails would change hight and the bike itself would lean. this would be great to race each other and extremly come close together. just an idea.............

Interesting idea. I've toyed with the 4 rail idea in my head a bit too. I've also thought about what would happen if they made an X like coaster but with seats facing away from the track towards the sides. Think about it, they could basically make a free fall ride on the coaster. Just make a vertical loop and have the 2nd rails make the seats stay upright the whole time. You would get major air time! Thats about the only cool idea i've had so far, but who knows what I'll come up with during my rants at 4 am!

i had another idea! in stead have 1 wide and 12 long, 4 trains side by side, but would not be connected. the bike would be about 2-3 feet off the track on a ball joint. each ride would be different. the bike would be launched, and pull wheelies off the start. the track would be a big bowl with ultra banked turns, had 4 levels, each of the 8 straights would have an element (corkscrews, camelback, any thing that would be contained at extreme speeds of 150+, but this would be at least a 3-4 mile ride to keep the Gs safe) the ball joint would allow the bikes to pull wheelies, stoppies, lay down the bike, a wobbling out of control feeling the would be experienced by each train. to maintain such high speeds, going down and coming up each turn there would be LIMs. i know a good amount of this is near impossible, but i thought it sounded cool........

If you're gonna do a motorcycle coaster, do two rails, one up, one down, with the 'bike' straddling the rail. You want to lean the bike? Just bank the track, which would be constructed in a monorail configuration with the vehicle wrapped around the rail.

It's a proven concept. Refer to Steeplechase Park, Brookly, NY.

You can also look at Steeplechase Blackpool Pleasure Beach and The defunct Soap Box Derby Racers that were at Knott's. These are both examples of the Arrow single rail coaster.

Dan--

True, but Arrow put the car above the rail, making the whole thing unexpectedly unstable...hence the change at Knott's from motorcycles to soap box cars.

I didn't know that Steeplechase hung from below the track. Thanks for the information Dave.

Steeplechase didn't hang from below the track. It straddled the track, with the top of the track rail only a couple of inches below the saddle, so that while the horse was riding on top of the rail, the rider's center of mass was only slightly above that rail, with a significant amount of weight below the rail.

My understanding is that the Arrow version puts the seat well above the track, and in fact the Knott's ride ended up with the entire passenger load above the rail.
