CP vs. PKI on Announcements

As you are no-doubt aware, PKI has been advertising in the park that something big is coming for next year. Now, put aside for the time being the fact that CP may have something planned for 03 itself. CP to my knowledge always waits until the very end of the season or after the season ends to talk about its plans for the next year. Which approach do you think is better?

Yeah, it's called Tomb Raider. It just opened.

I don't doubt they're just distracting you from the fact that they yanked King Cobra.

"As far as I can tell it doesn't matter who you are. If you can believe, there's something worth fighting for..." - Garbage, "Parade"

I'm not sure how it affects returning guests. I bet there is a legitimate argument to be made that some people who may have returned for a second time in the summer would see the news about the next big attraction and decide to wait until next year.

How much info is given at PKI? The other concern would be that a competitor would announce something to "beat" whatever you are building.

I've only been to PKI twice this year and neither time did I notice this new sign that's where the old King Cobra used to be (because I wasn't in the park long on both occasions). But from what I've heard this sign is the same one that they used to advertise the coming of Tomb Raider last year. Brings me back to the time when Flight Commander was just removed and PKI placed a sign on the fence in front of where it once stood stating, "Something new DROPPING in here next season." Well, nothing "dropped" in for a few more seasons. When Drop Zone finally came about, it was in a completely different area. They then used the Flight Commander space for a very bad pay-to-ride bungee-trampoline...um...thing. So my point is, I would not trust PKI's signs around the park. They can be very misleading. I think they just wanted to put something where King Cobra was just so people won't be so let down that they removed it.

I don't believe that they give away much of the details on the new attraction at all. Its more of a "check out this space for something new next year".
It was on the map when I was there. Something along the lines of something great coming for '03.

I guess it is just a more intriguing sign than "Pardon our Dust."
I remember being at PKI in May of last year, they had a sign hanging that "something new for '02" or something like that. It was hanging on the fence in front of the old water flume, as they were tearing it down. It's likely that they will put something there next year, but they won't say what until probably October...

PKI announced Tomb Raider in July '01. PKI has a reputation of "over-hyping" a new ride just to have people come into the park. CP has the edge in this matter because, we all know that CP will build a world-class ride they don't necessarily put alot of hype on a ride that is just a flat-spin (Tomb Raider). CP knows that they don't have to put emphasis on the ride in 2003 yet, because people will still go there because it is Cedar Point, not just for a new ride.
