Last fall we bought Platinum passes for the family in October, at Cedar Point, when they were on sale.
I was thinking of taking the wife to KI this weekend. I called down there and asked if my platinum passes could be processed there instead of CP. She seemed certain that they could, but said "if anything were to happen, KI would be considered your "home park". "
My question is, is there ANY benefit to waiting and processing my season pass at CP, since that is where the majority of our trips will be to? Does it only become relevant if, say we lose our passes, we'd have to go back to KI to have them replaced? Is this the only case where it would matter?
I'd like to hit KI this weekend but not if it will have any negative consequences for the rest of the season...
On edit: Since my two kids will not be coming with me, and their season passes were also purchased at CP, when we go to have them processed at CP will it matter that ours are "KI home park" and theirs are CP?
I processed my CP vouchers at Kings Island, and it was a piece of cake.
There are two things to keep in mind though. One, if Cedar Point offers a discount this year for renewing your Cedar Point Platinum Pass, you may lose out. Two, if you lose your pass I have heard it can be difficult to get a new one, without a manager override, you may have to retrieve a new one at Kings Island.
I didn't let it bother me, I don't lose a lot of credit cards or anything (knock on wood) and am hopeful I won't lose out on any discounts. I'm even semi hopeful I can convert to a Cedar Point pass later this season anyways.
The big bonus, if you were to go opening day, you can go right by that big 2-3 hour line to process your pass, and just head on in with your sweet KI PP. :)
OK, here's the straight poop, right from the CP season pass customer assisitance.
The whole "Home park" thing is overblown. There's no real difference. If we go this weekend to KI, process our passes, then go to CP later in the season to process the kid's passes, she said it would be no problem to transfer our KI passes over to CP, so that CP would be our "home park" for the whole family.
I told her I was concerned because I had been hearing different things, and she said there won't be any problems at all.
I should have gotten her name for future reference, should there be an issue.
^ Very cool! I'll transfer my pass over the first time I'm there and don't see a line.
The difference is that if you process at Cedar Point, they do the processing with about four cameras.
If you process at Kings Island, they do the processing with 20 cameras.
You decide where the line will move faster. :)
