CP vs GA

Hey folks! Went to SF Great America last Saturday. It was a special corporate day. Bull and V2 rocked! Deja Vu was closed - no surprise.

I bet Wicked Twister blows V2 out of the water, though!

Comparing the 2 parks is unfair. CP is too cool for words.

GA is just another Six Flags park! heh heh heh

Even though I live in Illinois, Cedar Point will always be my "home park". Only there can you truly feel the fun!

I'll be posting a full trip report on Coasterbuzz sometime today.

I disagree. I think that SFGAm is an outstanding park, and one of the most "CPish" of the bunch. They aren't perfect, but as far as Six Flags parks goes it's one of the best.

"As far as I can tell it doesn't matter who you are. If you can believe, there's something worth fighting for..." - Garbage, "Parade"

I will always be in SFGAM's debt for maintaining the last Schwarzkopf Speedracer in North America. Its 36" height requirement made it CBaby's first coaster at age 2 1/2, about an hour after boarding her first 'adult' spin-and-spue (a purple 'Monster' -- she was tall enough by a pony tail and frankly, I didn't want to let her board)

In the early 90s, I would skip CP altogether for SFGAM....and with Iron Wolf anf B:TE in the lineup, who could blame me?

It's really too bad SFWOA had to become the designated 'CP competitor'. SFGAM was holding its own rather well at one time; who knows what would be standing there now. A floorless? X? A waterpark?

Well Great America is my home park, but i'm leaving it all summer to work at CP. Never been to CP, hope it doesnt let me down.

How "anyone" could be so blinded by CP that they cannot see the "great" park right in front of them is beyond me. And for the record SFGAm is *not* a good "Six Flags" park. It a GOOD park which just happens to be owned by Six Flags. Though I daresay that even if the park was run the *exact* same way, though under the Cedar Fair logo, people wouldn't dis it as much.

But then again, I dont understand the CP cult following in the first place....

A CP cult? What? I don't know what you are talking about! *Someone quick cover up the CP alter and the robes* ;) lol

And I always wondered what was going on back in the trees in Frontiertown... ^_~

I came across a bit too harshly on GA. I really had a good time. It is smaller than Tragic Mountain, Six Flags' Flagship Park, but really a pretty Park. The staff is much friendlier than at Tragic Mountain. I'd go back to SFGA in a MINUTE. NEED that BULL time!

It's not really fair to compare GA to CP, though. CP just has a special quality that I find difficult to describe.

CP holds a special place in my heart. I have readily adopted it as my "home" Park, despite living in Illinois. And despite trips to Tragic Mountain every year for the 20+ years I lived in So. Calif.

Tragic Mountain...I like it! :)

IU shocks the world! NCAA finalists

When I passed GA last november I looked and from what I saw it looked like a park I could really enjoy going too.I also want to check out "Tragic" Mountain. The only Sf park I went to which was WOA let me down considerably but that does not reflect my overall opinion of that chain. So from what I saw I liked and I hope I can visit one day.

In the number of rides that are high quality I would have to say SFGAM has more then CP.

SFGAM is definitely not your average SF park. I would say they are in the tier with IOA, PKI, and CP.

Welcome back Magnum riders how was your ride?

I'm afraid Great America doesn't compare to Cedar Point-- for me. I'm not saying it's a bad park at all; and Raging Bull, Whizzer, and Batman, among others, are great rides. But as a whole it's a slightly less satisfying experience than Cedar Point. I first went to Great America when it was Marriott's Great America, with defined theme sections. Under Six Flags, the theming seems to have, I don't know, "smudged" a little. (By which I mean the quaint Yankee Harbor finding the dark, gritty Gotham City in it's midst... stuff like that.) Little things detract from the overall enjoyment of the park. Plus, Cedar Point has that marvelous location, surrounded by water, rather than expressways and malls.
