Hello everyone, this is my first post but I have been following the site for quite some time. I have been going to CP yearly since I was 16 and that was some 25 years ago! Our yearly trek to CP starts this Sunday and we are fortunate enough to be able to spend 4 nights in the Breakers Tower this year and plan 2 days in the park and 1 day at Soak City. The rest of the time will be spent on the beach and by the pool...I always feel like a little kid in anticipation of our trip during the few days before we go. I guess thats part of the magic of the place. My 2 daughters (ages 6&9) are already packing and drawing pictures of the park! My question is what are the good shows to see and is the IMAX movie any good this year. There is nothing like a nice cold beer or 3 at about 2 in the afternoon in one of the theaters and I'm wondering which shows are worthwhile. Also is the dive show on this year and is that worth going to see. Thanks for the answers and be looking for more posts from me in the future.

Welcome to CP Place!!
The dive show is on for this year, but most likely will be the last year, as it is rumored that TSFKA Oceana will be razed. The official website has a complete rundown of all the shows going on for this year. I know the IMAX is an Alien adventure type show, to which I have heard mixed reviews on.
Sadly, during my trip in June, I did not make time to catch any shows, as I was too busy waiting in line for MF!
Your daughters are also at the perfect age where they will enjoy the shows over at Camp Snoopy as well! Personally, I enjoy catching all the shows they offer during Halloweekends!

The IMAX show is reportedly the worst in history, and the last two years were really bad. I've seen Big 80's at Red Garter, and it's quite good. The country show at the same location has this fiddler who should be on tour somewhere, he's that good, even though I hate country music. The America show at Lustly Lil's is kind of weak, but it's air conditioned and they server beer.

I've seen The Big 80's and America.
The Big 80's plays at Red Garter and features a live band. I love the fact that all the music is live. The show is fun and worth the stop.
America! plays at Lusty Lil's. The accompaniment is taped and isn't bad, but it isn't live. The show starts off a little slow, but picks up the pace. I enjoyed the show and would recommend it as well.
Alien Adventure ... amazing graphics (along with amazing nausea!). But it isn't what I expect out of an IMAX film.

OK. Acrossthelake, I'll be there in the Tower also during the same time period!!
STAY AWAY FROM THE IMAX. Repeat... STAY AWAY FROM THE IMAX. This has to be the worst movie CP has ever put in there. I sat through the movie ONCE and it was amazing the number of people who left during the movie.
Make sure you see the Retro 80's show in the Red Garter and the Country show which is also in the Red Garter sounds good.
I thought "America" in Lusty Lil's was OK but not a "must see"
The DuWah's in front of Coasters do rate a "must see".
I also enjoyed the Centennial theatre show.
Also, with the 6 & 9 year old they may enjoy the show in Camp Snoopy which has Snoopy and the gang.
Wow, I guess I have seen alot of the shows already this year!
Also, I like the Laser show and the band before the show.
Enjoy the trip. Look for me on the Midway Sunday , I'll have on a grey shirt with Penton on the breast pocket area.
BTW if you haven't seen it yet the long range forecast for next week is calling for low 80's and a slight chance of rain
If you watch the IMAX, my suggestion is watch the first ride part and then leave. That's the best of them all, and it actually makes you feel like you are on the ride. The surround sound is cool too. In my opinion, this IMAX appeals to more of a teen crowd.
Really, Tim? That's what I was going to wear!

Thanks for the info. Are there any other must see/must do things? (besides the obvious!).
I must admit that I am impressed with the professionalism, courtesy and friendship of the folks at CP Place. Alot of other sites out there are really trashy. Keep up the good work!
I think dipping candles at the Candle Shop is a must.

A trip to the petting farm... hehe :) Hey, never know what kind of X rated action you may catch...

Hey, I did notice a couple of chickens going at it this weekend while the calf watched... (Ms. Rule was nowhere to be found to break up the action.)
Seriously though, I saw the country show this weekend. I hate country music more than anything (though getting hit by a bus is only slightly more preferable). Still, the show has three things for the non-fan: A guy who can do amazing things with a fiddle and rump-shakers in leather skirts (though not at the same time I would think).

I've always thought the shows in the Centennial Theater (main midway, across from Skyride) were the best.

Du wahs were awesome when I went
I thought the IMAX show this year was better than most they have had in years. When I went last year to the Extreme Sports show out of a full crowd when the movie started there were only 25 people left when it was over (we were still there because I feel asleep). The virtual rollercoasters on the movie (except for the underwater one) in this year's movie were pretty cool. I thought the movie fit in well at Cedar Point this year compared to any other year, and almost no one walked out of it when I saw it. If you are judging it by time spent instead of riding rides, I don't think any movie they show there would live up to that kind of standards.

Park visitor since 1979
I thought this years Imax was the best yet. The only problem is it is also playing at almost every six flags park. Of course they don't have that big screen.

Dispatch Master, This is Transport one! I'm losing control, I'm losing control!
Imax was ok--I HAVE seen worse there...No one has mentioned the Jump and Jive show prior to the laser show-I got the chance to enjoy a bit of that last Sunday and plan to give it much more attention next time! The Du-Wahs had a pretty good sound as well.

Six Flags does have an IMAX. Its at SFGAm. They have a Micheal Jordan film which I hear is pretty good.
And I noticed when I was at SFGAm that they were showing the Jordan movie once per day and the lame one the rest of the day. In Chicago? What?

Just got back, only got to see the Retro 80's show it was really good and the crowd had a lot of laughs. The weather was great this weekend (too cold for soak city) and a good time was had by all of us. My 9 yr old rode Corkscrew for the first time and she cannot stop talking about it. That was my first coaster too some 25 years ago!
