CP ride height sign from the 70's

Back in the 70's Cedar Point used one of those "you must be this tall to ride" signs in front of most rides. The board featured a blonde haired boy with bangs that covered his eyes, and the height indicator was his pointer finger on his outstretched arm. I want to say he was wearing a red and white striped shirt with blue shorts and black shoes if memory serves. Does anyone have a picture of it??

You can find the entire gallery here.

The one I think you are remembering is Jr. Gemini.

But I don't see any of those that use the pointer finger to measure the required height. Those all appear to use a striped measuring stick. I recall seeing signs using the outstretched finger as the measuring requirement. Don't know of any pictures though.

If you look in the bottom right corner of this photo, you can see the sign in question.

Here's a closer (but not clearer) look.

And this deserves its own post. There are a ton of great photos from the 1970s on The Lost Coaster.

I knew there was a 1978 Coaster Mania. But, I never had any proof. Until now. http://thelostcoaster.files.wordpress.com/2010/08/jumbojetandmikeg.jpg

I realize this isn't proof that it was in 1978. But, it was held because of Gemini. And with Jumbo Jet in the background, it couldn't have been after 1978.

I am pretty sure I had the same shirt as the little kid next to the guy wearing the coastermania shirt. If not, it was awfully close to the same shirt. Awful being the key word.

Thanks for the link, Walt. Those pictures and videos are great. Brings back a lot of memories of CP. The double ferris wheel, the big blue slide, frontier land, the old paddle wheel boat ride and the Jumbo Jet. I was only tall enough to ride the Jumbo Jet the last season it was open. So I only got to ride it once.

Jumbo Jet looked pretty cool!

Hi Guys... My name is Jerry and I write the blog on WordPress about the Jumbo Jet... The Lost Coaster. I started the blog back in May of 2009.

Jason,
The picture that you have a link to was submitted to me by Mike G.... Mike G was one of the Ride OPS on the Jumbo Jet and he sent me a bunch of pictures. As I recall 1978 was perhaps the 1st year for Coaster Mania, but I am not sure.

You must be this tall to ride... My first time to ride the Jumbo Jet was 1974 and I was barely tall enough... but I was hooked... Thanks for the link to my blog.

Kind Regards,

Jerry M

For those pictures being taken in the 70's, they are really clear.

That's the beauty of using actual film.

Why? Film can lose it's fidelity over time, digital images don't.
