Ohio has extended the ban on mass gatherings until July 1st.

That cements Cedar Point not opening until July at least, despite a certain someone running around on these forums claiming exact dates but unable to provide evidence or sources.

The ban until 01Jul keeps a 04Jul opening weekend possible. However, that's now another month CF parks have to figure out what to do with any staff possibly on-site. This must be getting more and more frustrating for the leadership teams. Maybe we will see an announcement this coming week giving parks and zoos the permission to reopen July 2nd.

It however, does align with the re-opening dates Disney is shooting for. Major difference being Disney has the staff to call back whereas CP does not. At least not in the numbers to appropriately staff the park.

Things could change, it could be possible that parks and zoos are granted an exception as they're outdoors and we could see something come down in the next few days that change this. New information is available daily.

Sadly, with the protests and riots happening in major cities today we could see a large influx of new cases in 7-14 days. Ruining a lot of the hard work the social distancing has accomplished.

My prediction is still a July 4th weekend opening, however, if any bans on mass gatherings get extended beyond July 1 I would not be surprised if CF cancels the season for KI and CP. It would be a bummer but there has to be a date circled where it just won't work anymore, with staffing, restrictions, etc. Just too much.

Thankfully, Texas has granted waterparks permission to reopen. So CF will start seeing some revenue come in.

The park in the chain that I think has the greatest chance of not opening this year is Michigan's Adventure. IIRC, their season is only Memorial Day to Labor Day and Michigan doesn't seem to be in any hurry to reopen. Some smaller parks in PA that have Memorial-Labor Day seasons have already pulled the plug on this year (Conneaut and Delgrosso's) and they don't seem to be in any hurry to open either.

Does not cement anything because he can rescind it just as fast as he implements it. Will it happen, most likely not but he can do it. Just saying is all.....

Plus I’m pretty sure cedar point will need time to prep and staff up....so July is the most likely scenario I can see, well most realistic opening in my mind.

He won’t because he’ll need a month of data to see if he can open everything else up. Unless he rushes it. Which I suppose is possible.

Agree just stating he could if he wished...that’s all

I still think they'll hold out and if the only thing they can do is a 6-8 week long modified version of Halloweekends with some rides they'll still choose that over nothing.

I had asked that question somewhere else but, I do wonder if there’s a date that Cedar Point internally says they must open by in order to make some money. Wouldn’t there be a point where the season becomes a total loss? Or is the pass revenue mitigating that?

Asking because I’m not business savvy like that. :)

I've been thinking that if they can't get open in early July, they won't at all. If they could get an early July-Labor Day then a much less themed, but still open HalloWeekends, I think they will open.

CP Coaster Top 10: 1. Steel Vengeance (40 rides to date) 2. Top Thrill Dragster (191 launches to date, 4 rollbacks) 3. Magnum XL 200 4. Millennium Force 5. Maverick 6. Raptor 7. GateKeeper 8. Valravn 9. Rougarou 10. Gemini

Ohio has extended the ban on mass gatherings until July 1st.

Keep in mind...

The existing order was set to expire at the end of May. It's easy to forget that as so many of the provisions of that order have been modified or outright rescinded. The latest 30-day extension is essentially a bookkeeping maneuver that retains the current status quo for another month. Remember what that is: it's really an indefinite order that can be amended, rescinded, or extended at any time. The new rule also prevents the existing sanitation and social distancing rules for businesses now operating from expiring.

We know that there is a committee working on setting the parameters for an industry restart. That we are seeing increased activity at both Cedar Point and Kings Island along with reports of Department of Agriculture ride inspections being done at various sites suggests that there is at least some momentum in a hopeful direction. Let's hope the Governor has some good news for us in the coming week, because if there's anything this state needs right now it's some old-fashioned recreation.

I agree with ya 110% Dave, with all the prep work the parks appear to be doing.

Isnt there a press conference this week about tourist attractions in Ohio? When will that happen?

^This week. Duh.

Honestly, I don't think DeWine gave an exact date on when it will be addressed. With the protests and riots occurring in multiple state cities the past few days things could be drastically different now then just last week. I am sure there is concern for a drastic spike in new cases in the next 5-14 days.

Yeah. Giving MaverickLaunch... err.. Mousey a date for his precious Cedar Point to reopen is likely not DeWine's priority as he gears up for this week

The governor said he would make an announcement on tourism on Tuesday, June 2nd.

Right but like others have said there are bigger issues happening now. I also doubt he’ll give a hard date on when things can reopen. If he does announce anything it’ll be regarding plans that Cedar Fair has in place, much like Universal or Disney, and then from there each park will announce their own dates. I still view July as the most realistic timeline. No need to rush back into it.

That's unjust, if a businesses can open than they should be allowed to open and have every right to do so, this entire lockdown has gone on far too long and the protest about the murder should not affect lifting lockdown restrictions.

Also this is a Cedar Point forum, i come here for Cedar Point news, of course I'm going to be focused about the status of Cedar Point.
