CP RARE ENTRIES CONTEST RESULTS!

Congratulations to Scott Cameron, who wins the Rare Entries contest with 80 points. The perfect score would have been 43, so 80 is a GREAT score. Here is the order of finish, followed by the links to find the answers and individual scores:

A special mention goes to Red Garter Rob, who would have won, and could have won, but chose not to answer one question. Instead he finished 20th. Oh well, you can't win if you don't play.

Ok, I have to speak up...

1. Point Mania (the site I put down) is currently under construction, but it does have CP stuff on it... lots of pictures and forums and stuff, we're just under construction right now...

2. Alabama for the CP city. There is a Cedar Point, Alabama, it was on some maps website (maybe Expedia.com?)

3. York, Michigan to Sandusky, Ohio is 100.6 miles, or did we have to go to 1 Cedar Point Drive, Sandusky, Ohio?

Thanks

The rules were pretty clear-cut:

1. Point Mania (the site I put down) is currently under construction, but it does have CP stuff on it... lots of pictures and forums and stuff, we're just under construction right now...

When I went there to verify the website, I got one "Under Construction" page. Surely as per the question, you don't expect credit for that?

2. Alabama for the CP city. There is a Cedar Point, Alabama, it was on some maps website (maybe Expedia.com?)

Alabama - Two Cedar Points (Madison Co., Montgomery Co.), neither incorporated and neither has a Post Office. Hence Alabama was an incorrect answer to my question.

3. York, Michigan to Sandusky, Ohio is 100.6 miles, or did we have to go to 1 Cedar Point Drive, Sandusky, Ohio?

Give the name of a town, that when directions are entered into yahoo! maps, is between 100.0 and 101.0 miles from One Cedar Point Drive, Sandusky Ohio.

What's interesting is that according to Yahoo! Maps, 1 Cedar Point Drive is located between US 6 and 1st street. Made me wonder if I'd get this question correct.

Now if I only read the movie question more carefully. Dang.

It wouldn't have been fair for me to use a radio freq that isn't posted here at GTTP or very easily found like recently used ones...

I can live with the fact I would have won.. hehehe

hmmm.. would have had a 76.. ohh well.. hehehe

I can't believe so few people chose Virtual Midway and GTTP. Teaches me to second guess myself :p

If anyone is interested, the FCC URL's for the frequencies are located at http://gullfoss2.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/ws.exe/genmen/ib/freq_st_res.hts?db_id=8&rows=0&state=OH&freq=00000463.86250000 I think - The site is down so I can't verify

I worked my butt off to find that. I feel so proud eventhough I sucked.

Blah. North Carolina threw me. The USPS returns a zip code for it, and a post office. Who was to know it was in another town? :P

At least I beat oldcper :P

Edit: Rob, 76 if you had used a radio frequency unused otherwise.

I really enjoyed that one... Great job Duane

*on a side note*

Some of the freq's listed as correct answers are no longer used.. ;)

They're still licensed though.

Just curious, would you have accepted Cedar Point for #1? It is a US themepark with a coaster named the same as a CP coaster! I considered answering CP, but opted for a vague Nevada park that no-one else got.

114 ain't bad.

I actually didn't find the GTTP frequencies until after I'd submitted my entries...I found a database somewhere and just happened to pick a frequency that was listed on this site, so that was just bad luck I guess. I don't know about anybody else, but I used the rcdb's park search by distance feature for a starting point for the 100-101 mile question, then just picked different cities that looked only a few miles closer. I was also suprised that Silverwood was the most mentioned park...but it just goes back to that fact that everybody was thinking that. Didn't fare as well as I wanted, but it was fun anyways.

Congrats to Scott for outsmarting/outguessing the rest of us. Unlike me, I am sure you read the instructions properly.

Whoo, I came in 5th! I really didn't expect to do that good. Too bad that I answered Silverwood for question 1, there were a lot of parks to choose from there. Anyhoo, congrats to all who played.

Edit: After reviewing number of times each answer was used, none of mine ranked too low in the numbers. There was only one that I got one point for, another that was 2. I suppose not getting anything wrong helped out, although the Coke vs Pepsi killed me. Should have gone with Coke.

I'm excited I was in the top 10, wahoo! :)

DBCahill - In response to what you have asked on the bottom of the answers page, why we picked the direction we did. I went towards Youngstown because that's where I went to college at. :)

I wish I could come back for another season...:(

My strategy with the distance question was this: I went towards a place that was about 100 miles from One Cedar Point Drive that had a lot of towns next to it either way. I found this question to be the most difficult and yet I was one of those who managed to score well on it! It was by far the most aggravating question of them all but when I finally found my answer, it was such a relief!

Thanks Duane for the kickbutt contest. Hope we can get another one soon.

Where would we be without CP?:)

Odd. Benton Ridge was my original answer for the map question. However, when I went there to double check my answer a couple days later, I got a result that Benton Ridge was 72.6 miles away.

http://maps.yahoo.com/dd_result?ed=X72zZ.V.wil2DWmnCu6YWGWu2sTD_Qf8tZr3Mwb3VpRzr5RDtDdzcg--&csz=Benton+Ridge%2C+Ohio&country=us&tcsz=Sandusky%2C+Ohio&tcountry=us&oerr=3003]. Check it out for yourselves So I spent another long amount of time searching to find a second town that was between 100 and 101 miles. I then found a town that was exactly 101.0 miles. Would this have counted or not? Just curious.

If you flip the destination and origin, you get 100.6 miles, and I believed the question stated from CP to the town, not vice versa (Benton Ridge was my answer):

Well I guess this proves that Internet maps are not always the most reliable. You'd think that they would be the same on the way there and on the way back. The answer I actually gave works out to be only 1/10 of a mile difference. But for Benton Ridge, there is a difference of almost 30 miles. It's just strange, that's all. Oh well, I'm not complaining. I've been following these competitions for a couple offseasons now, but this was the first one I'd entered. I thought that I finished pretty respectable for a first try. Bring on the next one Duane!
