CP "Rare Entries" Contest - March '03 edition

IMPORTANT - DO NOT POST ANSWERS HERE. INSTEAD, E-MAIL THEM TO ME AT duanecahill@comcast.net. You might want to read this entire post before answering the questions.

For each of the items below, your objective is to give an answer which is both correct and will be duplicated by as few other people as possible. The lowest score wins with a perfect score being 10 (1 per answer). Specific rules and regulations follow the 10 questions below.

For purposes of this contest "on the peninsula" refers to any area beyond the parking lot entrance gates. "Cedar Point" or "In the park" refers to any location within the park beginning with the admission gates - meaning the park itself and not Soak City or any of the resorts.

1. Name a company that sponsors pop-up ads on Guide to the Point.

2. Cedar Point closes at different times of day throughout the 2003 season. Name one of those times.

3. Excluding group sales, name a type of admission ticket that you can purchase at Cedar Point.

4. Name a place on the peninsula where a member of the general public has access to an ATM machine.

5. Name a ride that has been removed from Cedar Point since 1980.

6. Give the name of a coaster that once operated at Cedar Point that is no longer there.

7. In the 20-year span between 1983 and 2002, give the name of a ride that has been featured on the front of Cedar Point's annual brochure (not the Getaway Guide).

8. Name a location on the peninsula where you can purchase pizza.

9. Give any location within the park where you can have a portrait or caricature done. Be specific.

10. Name an avenue for legitimately purchasing discount tickets to Cedar Point.

--------------------------------
If your answer to a question is correct, then your score is the number of people who gave that answer or an answer I consider equivalent. If wrong, or if you skip the question, you get a high score equal to the total number of entrants as a penalty. The scores on the different questions are ADDED to produce a final score.

As an example of the scoring, say I'd asked for a color on the American flag. 19 people say blue, 5 say red, 3 skip the question, 2 say pink, and one
answers white.

The 19 people who answered blue are correct and score 19 each for that question.

The 5 people who answered red are correct and score 5 each for that question.

The 3 people who skipped the question score 30 each for that question.

The 2 people who answered pink are wrong and also score 30 each for that
question.

The person who answered white is correct and scores 1, the best possible score, for that question.

As moderator, I will be the sole judge of what answers are correct, and whether two answers are to be considered the same.

For my convenience please do not quote this message when responding via e-mail.

Your message should preferably consist of just the 10 answers, numbered 1 to 10, along with any explanations required, and your GTTP screen name.

IMPORTANT - There are no "trick" questions. Questions are not intended to be hard to understand, and normally no clarifications will be given during the contest. Only the first answer you submit counts; no changes are allowed after submitting an entry, nor alternate answers within an entry. If you provide any explanatory remarks along with your answers, you are responsible for making it sufficiently clear that they are not part of the answers.

1-2 times per day, I will post an update of the number of entries. This game will end at 900 PM, Wednesday, March 19. Why? Because for the next three weeks after that, I'll be watching the NCAA tournament...

Better believe it.

I don't really expect to win. But honestly, what else would I do at work? :)

That's right! When Duane posts my name, I max the font size on my browser, so my name appears as large as possible! :)

Florida may have Disneyworld and Key West,
but Ohio has Cedar Point and Put-In-Bay.
It's great to live in Ohio!

I just hope Duane posts the results before he buries himself into basketball for 3 weeks.

He probably has to research a little to verify some of my answers - give him a break... ;)

Haha - neither did I! ;) I was just offering an "excuse" for his delay. :)

I started finding the answers for the questions then read the bottom and saw that it was already over. :( Three days isn't very much time Duane.

If you don't like it, Shut Up and don't get in line.

Duane, If you dont have it done yet, can you at least put an update on what your doing and when it should be done? Thanks.

Maybe yinz ought to lighten up on Duane. Last time I checked, he was doing this out of the kindness of his heart.
OK kids, OK... I've been a little busy with "real life" for the past few days, and not necessarily with the tourney as it turns out. There's an awful lot going on in the world at the moment, and much of it has trivialized my ambition for this contest, as it were.

Nonetheless, a commitment is a commitment, and I am in the process of gathering responses now. There are indeed some areas that I'll need to research (moreso than I have previously - some folks have become awfully creative in their answers) but we're probably looking at next Wednesday before we have final answers posted.

Keep in touch.
