CP Off-Season Access?

Gotta another question...........Are there any restaurants, and/or attractions that are available in the park during off-season? Are there any winter-like tours that the park gives? I think that it would be awesome but cold to go up on a snowy day and check out the park. Any one..............??

The only thing you can do is have dinner at Bay Harbor.

Back in the mid-90's the Point tried doing a winter event with hot cocoa, sleigh ride tours, etc. It was a miserable failure b/c the Point is a miserable place to be in the winter.

I think Christmas in the Park also suffered from a lack of promotion. It just didn't seem like much effort was put into it. Hersheypark is a good example at where this can work in a cold climate. But I doubt Cedar Point could justify the cost to do something that nice.

The weather is cold, yes ... but, I think the lack of ride availability (Cedar Point's #1 draw) and the lack of staffing and money (preventing the event from being large) are ultimately the contributing factors.

I went to the Christmas in the Park, and the weather was not unpleasant at all, and I don't think that's why the event failed. There wasn't enough to do and the decorations were not extensive enough. The horse drawn carriage ride through the park was fun though.

I agree that they need something along the lines of the Hersheypark event for it to succeed at CP. Maybe once the Radisson water park is up and running, and the other winter resorts in Sandusky are in operation, there will be enough tourist traffic for CP to do another event, and do it right.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

If they would just let me walk through the park in the winter, carriage or no carriage I would be happy. :)

I'm with ya Chris! I would just like to take pictures of the snow covered coasters. Walt had an awesome x-mas gift for us last year when he posted the pic of the Gemini from winter of '88! I just think it would be cool to be able mingle around the park.....rides or no............

Anybody remember the old end of the season commercials Cp used to run, where they would say "time is running out on summer." They would show Gemini and then the picture would fade to a snow covered Gemini. They did the same with Paddlewheel Excursions, they would show the boat and it would fade to a frozen lagoon. I love the offseason pics Jeff has on this site, especially the Matterhorn. I think it would be fascinating to see the park after a good snowfall. Imagine how quiet the park would be! I wish I knew someone who could let me just walk the park.
It would be cool to go through the park during the winter, but as pete said there would have to be alot more decerations. They could possibly do a Grinch type theme in one part and someother christmas stories in other parts. It would be fun if they did,I would go. If they advertised alot they could get alot of people to go most likely making a pretty good profit off of it.
I think doing something around Christmas would be awesome. They wouldn't even have to decorate the whole park, just close some parts of it. Personally, I think Frontier Trail would make for the best christmas setting and they could really decorate it up. Maybe in a few years, as Pete said, once the indoor park opens. I would love to see the park covered in snow. :)

Finally a shoeless Raptor rider! :)

CP could even put in a ice skating rink in the park, or in the parking lot. I'm sure that they have already thought of many things that could be done, but, the weather on Lake Erie is for the most part miserable in the winter.

PKI had a event called Winterfest for some years and then decided to stop doing it. I'm guessing because of lack of attendence (why stop it if it makes money?). There has been talk that they may bring it back but for CP to do something like it, Sandusky really needs to be more year-round.

Sandusky is a year-round town. The only people that leave at the end of CP's season are the seasonal workers and "animals". :-)

Seeing the park in the offseason is pretty cool. Although when I went last year it was early April and the park was really starting to come back to life. A few rides were testing, coasters that didn't already have the trains back on the transfers had them sitting on the midways near the ride. It was quite a sight to see. I remember the Waveswinger was nothing more than a metal frame. Not a whole lot of people around other than a truck here or there doing some work.

I would still really like to see the park covered in snow, I think that would be awesome. I know someone on here said last winter that they've had a snowball fight in the park before. That would be very cool to do.

hey jeff how did u get the chance to go into the park during the offseason?
cedarpointfreak,

Jeff owns the park...Didn't you know that? He runs this website with the profits he makes off of $5.00 hotdogs and Dippin Dots.

I would love to see The Point open for a Christmas Theme. The Frontier Trail would be the best place to decorate for the holidays and a sleigh ride around the park would be awesome. I agree the weather would be pretty cold, but its northern Ohio, what do you expect. Just take your significant other and cuddle up.
