PKI just announced that it is getting a family suspended coaster for 2001, much like Silver Streak at PCW. So, does this mean that CP will respond with a Mad Mouse on the Oceana site? I'm not sure what PKI's crazy coaster count is now, but CP has 14 and PKI was advertising 13 for awhile. This would give them 14 now, tying CP.
Actually, I think CP needs to stray away from the coaster count for a bit and fix the ones they have. Personally, they should get rid of MeanStreak and put a CCI there & fix Magnum's trains...Just a thought.

"There goes the floor, and there, you go!"
I seriously doubt that PKI has announced anything for next year. 1) They're in the middle of promoting their Halloween event. 2) I know for a fact that they're going to wait until after the season to announce (straight from a reputable park official). Now things could have changed from when I got my info last weekend, but I highly doubt it. Any source on this new "info"??

Directly from Screamscape:
2001 - Rumor - (10/2/2000) Screamscape has been informed that the park will be adding Nickelodeon Central, which will include a Nick themed clone of the Vekoma Suspended coaster going to PCW (Silver Streak) as well as extensive rethemeing to the Kings Mill Log Ride.
So yes, PKI has not announced anything, but Screamscape is pretty credible. Whne they catch wind of something true, they release it. If it is a strict rumor, they list it that way too.
Anyways, back to CP, do they need to add a coaster in 2001 to maintain the record?

Anybody who says "CP needs a new coaster next year to tie/beat [insert park]'s record" has really lost touch of reality and is just plain spoiled.

How dare you vanquish the Steel Phantom without his consent? Fear the Phantom's Revenge.
Cedar Point is not going to tear down any rollercoaster in the near future, Why would they want to go from the park with the most coasters to 13 or lower?
Don't realy expect anything big comming out of CP next summer. Just some minor improvments( moving boneyard, Expanding camper vilage, etc..)

Raptor Crew 2000!!!!
The future is riding on us, because you don't need a ticket to ride!!!!
Does it really matter who has the most coasters? All that really matters to me is that CP has a lot of coasters. I'd rather not see them building something just to maintain a record. Besides, Multi-million dollar rides are just not hasilty thrown in a park. These things take careful planning.
That definitely makes sense. The strongest rumor has been a new water attraction to replace the Kings Mill. This also supports the rumor about two attractions next year. FYI - The Nick Central thing is true. There's a banner hanging outside the main gaate confirming it. I'm still surprised about the early announcement.
To get back to the topic, I don't think CP will counter if it's true. I think their focus will be on park/resort enhancements rather than new attractions. Of course, we thought the same thing with Camp Snoopy and got a darn good junior coaster.

Cedar Point is AT LEAST, and I will stress AT LEAST 2 years into the future as planning and development goes, so even if another park does get more coasters, Cedar Point won't change its plans.
I think that Cedar Point wants to provide for all of us a great park with great coasters-not just ones they built in an effort to maintain a record. It usually just happens that CP has enough money and planning to do this anyway. But, park officials don't dwell on having "the record." I think they're just concerned with providing us with the best amusement park in the world.

Trim brakes-a necessity???
PKI counts the racer as two. so really right now they have twelve coasters. Let's do this let's not count the kiddie coasters. Let's see here that gives Cedar Point twelve and PKI ten and they will still have ten after next season in my book.

Remember, line jumping is NOT a sporting event!
Actually, PKI has officially announced this new coaster for 2001. It was in the season pass guide that was mailed out and received today. They confirm the kiddie inverted coaster that will go around 35mph that will be located in the revamped Nickelodeon area. So yes, this is official. Also, from what I hear, a sign just went up on PKI's front entrance advertising the new 2001 attractions to all.
Last I'd heard, PKI had gone to Racer as a single...
What is the top 5 right now, anyway?
Are you going to stop going to CP because they don't hold the record for most coasters in a park?
I highly doubt it.
It doesn't matter how many coasters they have, it's the OVERALL experience that counts.
The way I see it is PKI will have 13 coasters next year- and Cedar Point will have 14.
well, if you want to say that the record matters, then if SFGAm gets TWO coasters next year, that will give them 12, which is darn close...of course, they count the Eagle as two(racing woodie), but i count it as one, so that still means 11...but hey who CARES?? it's QUALITY that really counts over QUANTITY in my book any day. of course, when you get quality and quantity together, you get CP, IMO.

--servo, For whom the off-season has already started...
Great news people! My backyard will soon be the first park to have sixteen rollercoasters!!! With a loan from my bank and millions from people's generous donations there will soon be sixteen replicas of Scoobie Doo's Ghoster Coaster in my back yard. I can expect people to be flocking by the millions to my park.

Remember, line jumping is NOT a sporting event!
My turn to talk I guess. First records are great for any park. To say that my park has more has more roller coasters than your park feels good. Also with more coaster you have more diversity in roller coasters. I mean if you look at Cedar Point, they have a huge number of different kinds of roller coasters. We have Hyper, Suspended, Old Out and Back, Stand Up, Inverted, racing (how many of those do you see) and more.
I don't think Cedar Point needs a new coaster next year because no matter how much PKI stresses Racer as 2, it will be always be one because of the coaster type.
Cedar Point isn't going to lose its record anytime soon. They know their competition and how to handle it.
