CP History Question

I was reading through the history page and came a cross a few thigns I'd like to have more information about.

1988 - Off-season fire at Hotel Breakers causes $80,000 damage

Anyone have any more details on this? What part of the hotel caught fire and what was the cause?

1990 - Modifications made to Magnum XL-200
What all was modified on the ride?

Don't know about the hotel fire...

But on Magnum, the third hill was reprofiled and the trim brakes that had been installed during the '89 season were moved to their current location.

A few years later, the entire turnaround was replaced, and the entrance and exit for the turnaround were adjusted a little. You can see the "new" track on the turnaround not only because it is made with thicker steel than the rest of the ride, but because the spine is larger in diameter.

Somewhat ironically, the hotel fire was started by workers installing a new fire escape in the wing that was closest to the resorts entrance by Ocean Motion. The fire damage was fixed fairly quickly, the only clue that something happened were the new windows. That part of the hotel was torn down a few years later when Breakers East was constructed.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
