CP History

Lets just say Cedar Point wouldnt be here for great people who formed it like Boeckling,Smith,Legros, and Munger. And The Great Owner today. What happened to Munger? Also where is the GA Boeckling 2 at?

Munger died of cancer in 1987 or 1988. It's one of those two years. As for the boat the G A Boecklking II? I don't know where it's at.

That means he wasn't even here to witness the beginning of the new Cedar Point with the building of Magnum. :(
Wasn't the GA Boeckling II the one that burned in the Toledo shipyard a while back?

I'm not positive, but wasn't the original Boeckling destroyed in a fire, right before it came back "home" to be restored after the "Friends of the G.A. Boeckling" raised funds to restore it. I'm sure that Cedar Point on Lake Erie has it in their extensive history section. Or, you can email the webmaster, and he'll know.

That was the original G.A. Boeckling. See another thread on this forum. The G.A. Boeckling II was a 65 foot steel motor vessel. It was the original of what became a fleet of 3 boats, eventually named the Cedar Point I & II & III. After they were sold to Res-Q Marine, they were renamed the Dispatch, Island Trader and something else I can't remember at this moment.

They were obtained by CP to replace the Boeckling, as vessels 65' and under require a much smaller crew to operate, and a different sort of Master's License to skipper. In addition, these were diesel motor vessels, much easier to maintain and service than a walking beam steam engine!
