CP Goes Live for Entertainment in 2K

If you'll check out the official page, CP has posted their 2000 update for the live entertainment. Not much in addition or changed form last year's lineup, but as tradition has it, we will be seeing a new IMAX film this year. Alien Adventure is the title and it supposedly involves some Aliens who happen to land right in the middle of a coputer generated theme park. Will this be the film for those who didn't believe last year's spanking new digital sound system was put to good use? Anyone seen it? Let's KABITZ!

Well, it's GOT to be better than "Extreme"! :)

Oh, man, I was at C.P. like the last weekend of last year and they showed Alien Adventure just to see if people liked it, sadly, it was the worst Imax film i have ever seen, it looked like a bunch of old simulator movies pieced together with computer animation and a weak storyline, although the aliens themselves weren't that bad, the movie was, in my opinion.

HA HA HA, MELLENIUM FORCE, YEAH BUDDY!
I saw it on the last weekend of operations. It was pretty good. They said that it was designed for 3D effects. But without any 3D glasses, I guess the effects just cam't be shown. The storyline was weak, but beyond that it was a good movie. I especially liked the ride simulations.

*Sigh*

They told me this was what was going to play next year, but I still had hopes.

I guess people liked it from the surveys they took after the show. I've already said it a couple of times, but I enjoy repeating myself, that show was stupid.

Dave, I don't know if you can say that after see this 'spectrum of cinematics.'

Maybe 2001 will be the year I can sit through an entire IMAX film. I had a very difficult time getting out of this one because my girlfriend dropped her bag when we were walking in front of everybody and the screen, and her stuff rolled down the incline (don't try to go down there) towards the screen. Needless to say we made a spectacle of ourselves. The Point of the story: Just avoid The Cedar Point Cinema all together, then we all will be happy.

What happened to the "real" IMAX films that explored ship wrecks underwater and explored the Grand Canyon? Some of the recent Omnimax films, such as Alaska, Everest, etc., have been fabulous. Why have the IMAX films been sucking so badly?

It's ashame that they couldn't get late rights to Fantasia 2000. That was supposed to run at a handful of IMAX theaters (I think the one in Dayton got it) for the first few months of the year.

In order to show Fantasia 2000, the IMAX theatres had to agree to show the movie for a full 3-4 months and nothing else. That's the reason a lot of the theatres choose not to feature it. We got it here in Columbus, Ohio and I loved it...but Disney was asking a lot of the theatre's who wanted it, probably more than CP wanted to give.
For those in the Toledo area, Fantasia 2000 can be viewed at Henry Ford Museum & Greenfield Village in Dearborn Michigan. Only about an hour 15 minute drive away. They are charging $10 to view it, and more info can be found at http://www.hfmgv.org/imax/index.html.

It was a great show, and definately not one to miss on the sound systems and screens that are a part of an IMAX setup. It will be going to standard movie theaters, but I doubt that it will be as spectacular.

If you have the opportunity to see it, and appreciate good classical music and excellent animation, go and see it. It is humorous to see the difference between new animations and the dated (but still good) Sorcorer's Apprentice (sp?) and you can see the difference that computers make.

I am a big IMAX fan. I'm not sure how Cedar Point picks their IMAX films, but the procedure needs to be examined. Like Jeff mentioned above, I too miss real IMAX films. Movies like Grand Canyon: The Hidden Secrets (the greatest IMAX picture of all time, in my opinion), Everest, and The Dream is Alive. I even enjoyed Speed and the short film North of Superior (extra credit for those who remember that one!). But films like Extreme and Flight of the Aquanaut? I guess I can just sigh.

With all due respect, I have not yet seen Alien Adventure. But I just don't have much hope. More information on Alien Adventure can be found at http://www.nwave.com/largeformat/alienadventure/

I can’t believe you liked North Of Superior. That is the worst IMAX film ever and I can’t believe they are still showing it. It really gives an outdated image of Canadians. The downhill skiing part was more nauseating than the Blair Witch Project.

I wish they would play Titanica (the full version). That is the best IMAX I have ever seen.

The best thing about IMAX at Cedar Point is the price. Where else can you see a free IMAX flick (good or bad)? I paid $12 (Canadian) for Fantasia and the going rate around here is about $9.
OK, so I know it probably wouldn't play well to the masses, but here in Harrisburg, we just got the Rolling Stones on IMAX. Great show!

Fantasia is out of the question here as well because of the aforementioned Disney requirements.

Currently signature-less. This space for rent.
Anybody remember when Cedar Point showed "Stones at the MAX" when it came out? They charged extra admission for that one, since it is about double the length of most IMAX films, and I think they also ran "To Fly" that year for the people who objected to the extra-pay. I know I didn't see it...

I saw Stones at the Max in Ft. Lauderdale. I am not a big Stones fan but it was a great show. The sound system was incredible. It really felt like you were sitting in the front row. Jagger's lips were like 20 ft high!

I don't know what other band would work as well. Maybe Aerosmith or someone like that. How about a Point at the Max. Wouldn't play well at the Point but I bet it would sell in Columbus and all over the country where people can't ride Magnum, MF, etc.
