CP Commercials

I saw one of the commercials for CP the other day. What caught my attention was that it show rides from GL. IT had Denominator and Thunderhawk. Just thought you may like to know.

I saw that too. I don't know why they don't use their own coasters. They do after all have more then enough to make a commercial.

1) Millennium Force
2) Maverick
3) Raptor
4) Shivering Tembers
5) Magnum xl 200

They can shoot one commercial for Geauga Lake, Cedar Point, and Kings Island, and in another thread someone mentioned other parks.
And then run it for all of them. Genius Idea but I think they could have just shot footage and edited a few different ones with the same concept but they probably chose not to.

Denominator is one of the least common coasters that I know of...

I seriously laughed so hard at that!

This always happens to Geauga Lake. Why, does Cedar Fair and Six Flags do this?

*spits out tuna sandwich*

Least common . . . LOL.

I'm not sure why, but the last commercial thread that was active was deleted. Oh well, there's a reason for everything. This thread is 11 years old, but still has me thinking to ask everyone which one was their favorite CP commercial? My favorite goes all the way back to the early 2000's when they they had the "Come on, get on" commercial.

2007 being 11 years ago puts a tear in my eye. Anyhoo it isn’t a sin to create a new thread yanno. ;) However, I do understand the enjoyment of looking back at old threads too.

Anyhoo, I really enjoyed the the Maverick prospector commercials. The one that is always in my head though, is the ride warriors commercial. I also remember seeing one online that made me laugh; it was a Raptor commercial where the bird swoops down, grabs a kid, and flys away with him.

Sadly I rarely see CP commercials where I’m from. It seems a majority of people here in Indiana go to Kings Island and of course Holiday World year after year without giving Cedar Point a thought. I’ve always thought it was crazy since CP isn’t that much longer of a drive and there is significantly less traffic, not having to drive around Indy and Cincinnati and such.

Unless I'm watching the wrong tv channels, we very rarely get Cedar Point commercials over here in Pittsburgh, except for last year. They really went all in over here to market the CP Shores overhaul. They didn't really focus on any one coaster. It's hard to have a favorite when I've only ever seen the ones you guys talked about and posted in the other thread.

'...Cedar Point's got the cure for the summertime blues!"

That was the big one running when I was a kid. It's ingrained itself into my memory.

I love that an ad for Avalanche Run of all things takes a swipe at Disney--doubly interesting considering the change to Disaster Transport (or North Coast Space Mountain) several years later.

My personal favorites are "Summer is going fast..." and the kid lecturing his parents about how they're wasting their lives working. I also remember seeing the original promo video for Raptor on the scoreboard at Jacobs' Field before an Indians game in April of 1994- it was a really big deal.

It's funny now, because of the ease with which you can find these commercials, the line between actually remembering seeing these commercials on TV as a kid and remembering seeing them on YouTube starts to blur.

They have 6 of em!!! I’m going!

I think this was one of the only times CP ever directly stated their attempted competition with Disney.

CoasterKyle, that was pretty cool. That second vid you posted is actually from my hometown news channel here in Pittsburgh...and I'm pretty sure that guy is still occasionally on there. Crazy to think that not all THAT long ago, Gemini was considered CP's top coaster.

Not at all. When “new” Cedar Point underwent its early 60’s renovation they actually promoted themselves as “The Disneyland of the Midwest”. And maybe not to compete directly with the California park, but maybe as a doable comparison for Ohioans. Turnpike cars, Satellite Jets, steam train, gunfights, stage shows, Western Cruise, Sky Ride, Stagecoach, and what did we know? Seemed like Disneyland to us, anyway.
Can you imagine how Disney would jump if someone attempted such a statement today?

Obviously I wasn’t born yet, as I just had the big 27 yesterday. But anyway, I would have to say that the Gemini Promo is my favorite.

I don’t have the link, but it can be found on YouTube.

The early 80s ad strategy was seemingly centered around selling fearsome rides, and I guess you can't argue with the results. There's one commercial in particular with Corkscrew, Gemini, and Demon Drop that shows riders screaming and completely terrified- kind of quaint in hindsight.

My era was more the "get here while you still can, and bring your Pepsi proof of purchase for discounted tickets!" of the early-mid 90s. However, whether it was intentional or not, if you look at the Power Tower commercial from 1998 it recalled those early 80s ads with its narration and even lighting and effects.
