CP Commercial

raptorqueen's avatar

Have any of you in this forum seen the CP commercials (I live in MI)? I am wondering why CP would do this and I hope someone has an answer! :)

#1. They are advertising Maverick with the part of track that was removed.

#2. The wooden coaster in the beginning/middle of the commercial is not at CP.

If someone could tell me why they are doing/paying for this commercial if it is not accurate, I would appreciate it.

Cedar Point, Americas rip- rockin', high flyin', sky defyin', record breakin' roller coast

Here is my point of view on that:

They are showing a lot of rides not at Cedar Point.

The ones I've seen have Mean Streak pretty heavily featured in the beginning and middle.

As for Maverick, the commercials were put together before the park opened (and certainly before the issue was known). They also use the 3d animation, not ride footage. I doubt it was worth the cost to go back and get the animation "fixed" before doing the commercial.

Jugga, at first, I too thought it was MS, but if you get a chance, take a look at the background, that is not CP. That is where I first noticed it.

I'll have to pay closer attention next time then.

It's true, that coaster is clearly not Mean Streak...nor is it one at Geauga Lake or Kings Island. Not sure why they would do this when they obviously have footage of Mean Streak. Also, early in the season, I saw a commercial a few times for CP where they showed an inverted coaster that was not the Raptor, because the colors were completely different. Might of been the one at Dorney or World of Fun.

Try to help you out a little. Valleyfair is running ads in this area using the same western theming for their new Renegade wooden coaster as shown in this Maverick promo video - http://maverick.cedarpoint.com/ride/video/?video_id=13 . Even uses the same "changing direction in the blink of an eye" wording.

Although I've not seen the video in question, perhaps the videos at http://www.valleyfair.com/public/attractions/rides/thrill_rides/renegade.cfm can confirm/deny whether it's the same coaster. My kids (and I) enjoy seeing the clips of CP coasters in the VF commercials.

That makes it sound like Cedar Fair hired a lazy PR firm to do their commercials this year. Even if it is coasters from your family of parks, you don't use them in an add touting a specific park. That's just laziness.

They do this all the time. I've always had issue with it, but it seems most members of this site think it's perfectly fine to use "stock coaster footage" for a park's commercial. It just shows large corporations don't really care about being accurate - all they care about is making and saving money.

The same commercial is shown for Kings Island, only the ending was changed to say Kings Island rather than Cedar Point. Other than that it's the exact same commercial.

I think the footage in the commercial you're referring to was filmed at Knotts Berry Farm (at least the people shots). The only CP footage in that entire commercial is a small clip of Millennium Force and Top Thrill Dragster.

I'd love to see them use some of the footage that's now playing on the new LCD screen in Maverick's queue for a new Maverick commercial.

Check out this commercial I found on Youtube for Maverick. I hadn't seen it before. I've only seen the commercial advertising for the entire park. I don't think this commercial has been shown in SE michigan.

campfreak06, that commercial is being played currently on TV here in Lansing.

The Maverick media DVD has that clip and the ones that Iowa-to-CP has listed, which that is what it is for.

I just wish the media and CP updated their commercial to make it accurate.

Accurate how? They aren't going to pay the money to redo the 3-d animation so that it doesn't have the zero-g, its not worth it. The only option would be to release a new commercial that doesn't use "footage" of that roll, but that's about it.

LOL, after all the news of their profits why not? ;)

I love the 17 coasters one.

If you're referring to the "Ride Warriors" commercial, it's the exact same for Canada's Wonderland, with a few spliced bits of footage actually from the park.

Why would they want to advertise Mean Streak? All you would see is frowns on the faces of people riding it, and a couple people sleeping.

All jokes aside, it's pretty stupid of Cedar Fair to advertise Cedar Point with pictures of rudes from other parks.

It's called being lazy.

Very lazy.

That's like a producer creating a movie premier and having footage from other movies in it.

I like the 17 coasters one too, but I haven't seen that one in a while.

I slow-motioned the 17 coasters commercial, which is very good at building excitment for the park. However, one would expect that it would show the 17 coasters, maybe one for each digit that appears on screen. It doesn't; there are instead a few major coasters shown repeatedly. It gives the impression of there being a quartet of WTs, a few dragsters, etc. Where's the love for Woodstock Express?

I've noticed in the last few years they've started this trend of using "generic" TV ads. In my opinion, it's the worst advertising scheme ever. Some of their past ads, such as the Hold On campaign, and pretty much all of their commercials from the 90's, were very well recognized by everyone (not just enthusiasts). It created a lot of buzz, which is what a good ad campaign should do. The last few years, their ads have just been very blah. Didn't they just switch to the company they are using now? Probably means we'll be seeing more lame commercials for a few years.

Additionally, the Maverick commercial that Iowa linked to has been appearing in the ad box on AIM for at least a week. I'm not sure how AIM does their advertisements, but I can't imagine they're focused locally, meaning CP is running a national campaign with this.
