CP Causeway or CP Road

This will be my 7th trip to CP and I've always been taking interstate 80 west to exit 118 (250 north), up to Sandusky.

I was thinking this year or taking exit 145 north to route 2. From route 2 to W Clevland Rd. and finally to CP road instead of the causeway.

Has anybody ever tried going that way and is it worth it?

We always take the Rye Beach Road exit and then take the Chausee to the park. It's very scenic and usually has no cars on it.

I take that way; turnpike to route 2, then CP road, it seems faster and you avoid all the traffic in Sandusky and the lineups at the toll booths! Its also a faster escape at night! I know its faster, b\c i raced my friends when they went the turnpike and I beat them by like 10-15 minutes.

What's the Chausee?

The Chausee is the same thing as "CP Road", as you call it.

The way I come up to the point, the Chausee is the quickest for me. Plus, its always fun to drive down and look at Pointbuzzers future homes/summer homes. ;)

Cedarpointdude021170,

The Chausee (please excuse me if I misspelled it) is another name that Cedar Point Rd. is known by. Coming from the eastern or southern suburbs of Cleveland (depending on if I am coming from work or home), I usually take I-480 to I-to to exit 145, and then Rt. 2 to Rye Beach Rd, and take the Chausee (Cedar Point Rd) on my way there, and the Causeway on the way back.

I do sometimes mix it up on whether to take the chausee or the causeway, but I generally stick to the exit 145 to Rt. 2 route.

I think it is a quick and convenient way to go, especially since you do bypass the traffic on 250.

John McCain: The Ride

Being Mavericky since 2007!

Cool. It does appear to be very scenic with Lake Erie to your right and some pretty nice looking homes to your left according to Live Local.

I'm going to try it. I'll be there in 6 days, can't wait.

Thanks for the tip everyone.

What's the best way to avoid the traffic lights and heavier traffic in Sandusky? I usually take Rt. 6 through downtown Sandusky but this time I tried the turnpike, got off and sat at every other light through the mall/hotel area. I've never been able to find Cedar Point Rd., would this help shave some time/stress off my drive?

It sounds like you got off the turnpike at 250. If you get off at 4 instead and take that north into town, you can avoid a lot of traffic.

If you are coming from the West, you can also take the Rt 53 exit off of the turnpike (Exit 91), and take that to Rt 2 East. You get the scenic view of the park from the Sandusky Bay bridge. From there you can get off at Rt 4, US-6, or 250. Your choice... I take US-6 through Sandusky and cut onto the Causeway on First Street.

As long as you avoid 250, you'll miss most of the Sandusky traffic. That means take 4 if heading west and 6->2 if heading east

While the Chausee is a nice scenic drive, I've never found it to be faster than staying on 6 all the way to the Causway.

I did a non-scientific study last year and found the time it takes to use the Chausee versus taking the Causeway to be about the same. If you're arriving during a busy time, however, the traffic backup on the Causeway can increase that time dramatically.

Even if it takes the same amount of time, I don't like waiting at the toll plaza at opening. The "back way" usually has no cars, so you can zoom right through. Plus I like looking at the houses. Some are awesome and some are obnoxious!!

What's an obnoxious house?

Does it give you the finger or something? Or more likely something that 99% of the population can't afford :(.

BTW I'm taking the Chausee...should be cool.

To me, an obnoxious house is an ugly one. LOL! It just goes to show money can't buy taste which is unfortunate for those people.

I'll try some of these suggestions and see which I like better. The sooner I can get off the turnpike, the cheaper each trip will be. Sometimes I take 6 all the way, it may take longer but at least it's free.

I've heard about Chausee but have never went that way. Might be good entertainment some time. What's the best way to get there coming from the west?

You'd have to pass up the causeway to get on the chausee or you could drive down the causeway and exit out of the parking lot onto it and make a round trip back onto the causeway.

Either way it's out of the way coming from the west

Ride on, MrScott!

He said he was taking the Turnpike West. That means he's coming from the East. Rye Beach Road is therefore the first exit he'd come to.

I figured it was out of the way from where I'm coming. I live about 50 miles southwest of Toledo.
