Corkscrew

I got a question. Why does Cedar Point's Corkscrew have belts on the harnesses? It's not a big roller coaster, does not give big thrills, and actually has belts. PKI's Vortex, on the other hand, it a huge roller coaster, the best roller coaster at PKI, and it doesn't have belts on the harnesses. All Arrow Loopers I been on except the Corkscrew don't have belts on the harnesses, so does anyone have any idea of why this coaster has a belt on the harness?

It's a safety issue. If the shoulder harnesses were to release before the bunny hill then well, everyone would fly out. After the bunny hill, however, seatbelts are not needed.

Of course this is just Cedar Point's way of saying that they're the safest park on the planet. I don't know why they didn't add them until this summer, though. It seems like every coast would have had seatbelts added a long time ago.

Personally, I think it's a bandaid to fix a gaping flesh wound of a maintenance issue on that ride.

Just my $0.02.

I do feel safer on corkscrew with the newely added belts.

I feel soooo much safer ;), especially when the belt swings down and smacks me right in the face. I definitely will be looking out for that next time I ride. I also like doing part of the ride-ops job by "checking my own belt", it makes me feel like an unpaid employee of Cedar Point. When do I get my bonus :)?

I understand completely. I should have made my sarcasm a little more evident.

Seatbelts save thousands of lives each year. Doesn't hurt to put them on another roller coaster.

The point is, it DOES hurt! That little metal latch plate is a free-hanging hunk of steel on the end of a fabric belt, and if that smacks you in the face, it can hurt like you-know-what!

Who notes that at Geauga Lake, neither the Double Loop nor the Boomerang (whatever they call it...) has gained safety belts of any kind this season. *** Edited 9/26/2005 10:12:01 PM UTC by RideMan***

No it isn't. It's disregarding three decades of safe operation.

There is no reason that Corkscrew needs seatbelts now this late in the game. Like Jeff said 3 decades without them and no accident. Also with having seatbelts Corkscrew is stacking terribly. The last time I was there it was the third-longest line we waited in 45 minutes! But where the line was on a normal day without the seatbelts it should not have topped 15-20 minutes.

I don't know how many times I saw a train in the station with the two other trains sitting on the blocks outside. This is really just the result of two things, our sue-happy society and...well, I won't mention a name or position, just that it has to do with a safety science degree.

It's always fun when it is stacking during pouring rain...
