Cooling Period

Hey guys, been a while since I've posted, but is it true that Wicked Twister will have a period that the LIMs will have to cool down? If so, wouldent thi make the line's longer?

I am not sure I have never ridden a Intamin Impulse although I would of liked to the one I cpould of rode was broken down and it was to be down all day but I would not be surprised.
Suprisingly enough, if the LIMs aren't warm enough, they won't operate correctly.

So are you saying that during CP's rather colder parts of the season, WT could see some substantial down-time?  I would sure hope not, but I'll be there all summer so it won't really matter.

Mantis Crew '02 - Where's the unload station at?!? ;-)

Of the four times I have been to SF:WoA I have only seen S:UE down for a couple minutes and that was due to rider stupidity.

I keep hearing of alleged cooling intervals, but I'm not sure that any such intervals really exist. No one has given any solid proof as to why one would be necessary.

I think it might just be a thing the Six Flags people made up as an excuse for their 4 minute interval! :)

I'm not sure, but I believe those fans above the LIMs are part of a system to pump hot air in, not to allow hot air to exaust from the system.

Rider Stupidity What's that?....HAHAHAHAHA
I think CP has portable heaters anyway....

Good to see you posting Power Tower Blaster ;)

I don't think CP has portable heaters, although they would be nice to have during some frigid halloweekends nights.... Anyways. I think the amount of heat they are talking about is a bit more than what a portable heater can put out ;)

Does MF have a heater below its unloading station? I remember back at HalloWeekends when we were waiting outside the station that there was a very nice warm breeze coming from under the station.

Yes, they do put heaters under the station when it gets cold out. Not just to keep people warm, but the trains! Since Millennium Force is so susceptible to weather conditions, if the trains are not warmed during morning test runs in cold whether, there would be an increased chance for it to roll back.

If you notice they had blue tarps set up in the bottom of the stations directing the heat towards the train chassis (this is all just a hunch :))

Yeah, that was the big tipper! I assumed to was to keep the trains warm, but it was a welcome source of warmth that day...very nice breeze coming off the lake that day on a day when it got lower than it got in December. LOL!

I think its an Intamin thing rather than a CP thing. The Lightning Bolt at MGM Grand has those same heaters in the station.

They aren't pumping hot air over the LIM's. If the goal was to keep them warm, they certainly wouldn't hose them down the way they do on California Adventure's California Screamin'.

SFWoA also hoses the LIMs are times. I caught a water droplet at 72mph in the eye when I rode in the front.
I just rode Speed over the weekend at the Sahara in Las Vegas.  There was a definate wait time between rides of at least five minutes.  My wife and I were wondering what the deal was and why we were just standing there in line for no apparent reason.  Maybe this is the answer?  Anyway, that ride kicked major butt!  My head is still spinning!
TPolansky...I just rode that ride recently also...and yes it does rock..However, I think the "wait" you had was more due to poor cycle times by the ride operators versus some "cooling period". It also appears they like to run a full train whenever possible.

Until you visit another park/attraction you don't realize how well CP is operated. CP runs the rides to ensure maximum capacity with minimum wait. But that is for another topic.

Difference being that the Cali' LIMs are directly exposed to the sun, making them hotter than any "Inverted" LIM hidden from the sun by the track above. My theory is that the fans help to warm up the LIMs when they are first fired in the morning. But at a certain temperature, the AC system is put in reverse of sorts, and acts as a cooling mechanism. The only reason I think the fans are part of a heating system is because I had a little chat with a SFWoA mechanic after an early morning ride on S:UE that was not, let's just say, normal. We only made it through half (if that) of the ride program. But seeing as that he was a SFWoA mechanic, I really can't say anything for sure. ;)
