Considering a Cabin or Cottage

In lieu of a graduation party, I'm considering taking ~8 friends (myself included) to Cedar Point for a few days, probably Wednesday through Saturday or Sunday.

If anyone here has ever rented a cabin or cottage for that length of time, how was it? Are they kept clean? Will we receive early-entry passes? Which would be better for my group (cabin or cottage)?

Thanks for your help.

Great choice - we were Breakers regulars until we stayed in a cottage - now we are cottagers. To accomodate 8 you will need a cabin. No cabins are bayside, only cottages are (cottages accomodate only 6).

Cottages and cabins both have an amazing amount of ammenities for their size, of most benefit is the kitchenette. A small fridge, sink and microwave are included. There is also a BBQ outside each cottage/cabin

We have had between 1 and 5 night stays in a cottage, all of them excellent. They are cleaned daily - ashes in the BBQ are removed daily. I'm not sure if there is room service, but last year I did see a Dominos Pizza delivery guy delivering a pizza to a cottage next door (do those pizza delivery guys have to pay $10 to drive into CP like everyone else?).

Other advantages - the camp store is nearby, well stocked (beer, snacks, stuff you can't get at other CP stores) and reasonably priced. The outdoor pool is very nice, hot tub on site. There are laundry facilities, additional bathrooms/showers and a small arcade are near the pool. By the way, what's up with the small arcade - lots of kids (and adults) in the cottages/cabins/motorhomes/campers in Lightouse Point have $$$ to spend - CP should consider adding some more stuff to do in the area. You will see some very impressive & $$$ motorhomes parked in the area if you stay there.

Maybe using that old lighthouse (awesome building - it should never be removed) for something for guests, rather than storage. I myself would pay a buck or 2 to get inside and up to the lamp room. There is a short pier on the bay to visit near the old lighthouse.

The shuttle bus stops near the pool and will take you the park gate or any other stop on their route at your request. It is actually a quick walk to the resorts gate across the parking lot (it seems far but it's not). The pathway along the bay/lake is very nice (watch out for goose bombs!). Too bad there is no entrance to Bubbles bar from outside the park.

There is no WIFI access in cottages/cabins, you have to go to the nearby Sandcastle Suites lobby to get such access.

Finally, yes, you will get early entry passes. Perhaps most important, if you or members of your party are going into the park and/or Soak City for more than 2 days and/or if you are going to go back again during the season, seriously look into buying a season pass. You get early entry with a season pass whenever you use it.

Congratulations on graduation! But, don't rush it, because you're gonna miss high school like whoa! I graduated in '08 and like everyone else, couldn't wait to be out of school and go to college...Now I wish I was back LOL.

Anyways, enough of me reminiscing on the good days, here is a link to Lighthouse Point which is the location of the Cottages and Cabins. http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/park/resorts/hotels/lighthouse_point.cfm

From working at the park this past summer, I got to see a lot of things I've never seen before as a guest and the cabins was one of them. They're a pretty decent size. I mean they aren't big enough to have a raging party in, but they're definitely clean. Besides, you're probably not gonna spend much time in there except sleeping and possibly eating. There's a lot to explore on point!

Also, go to this page: http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/park/resorts/hotels/index.cfm
scroll down to "Lighthouse Point", there are 3 yellow box options: Check Rates, More Info, and Photos.

Sandusky KOA...it's dirt cheap...give their rates a look

I am pretty sure you can get to Bubbles from the beach side. I know that I have been on the "dry" side of Bubbles, but I can't remember if it is accessible without having to enter a park gate somewhere.

^ I don't believe so. I believe there is only 1 way in and 1 way out of Bubbles being that they have to ID anybody who comes through. However, I could be wrong!

I know for a fact that there is more than 1 way into Bubbles, there is the "wet" and "dry" side. The wet side is of course in the water (the swim up part of the swim up bar) and the other is the dry side which is on the other side of the bar and, I am pretty sure, has a path from the beach.

It's up to the bar tender to ID everyone, they are the ones who get fined, not the "gate" person. (though I am sure they would get in trouble also!)

(In 2005 I worked Gate when I broke my glasses and could not work my normal job till I got them repaired. They placed me there because it was not a safety issue as long as I could see enough to read the ID's! :) )

Thanks, everyone. I'm very excited about the early entry passes, I'm sure all my guests will appreciate that too!

@TwistedWicker77 Thanks for the advice. I'm haven't even graduated yet and I'm already beginning to miss some things about high school. Also, bonus points for replying to both of my posts.

Bubbles used to have access from the beach, but that went away sometime in recent years. There is a "dry" side to Bubbles, but you still have to get inside Soak City to get to it.

^The "dry" side to bubbles is accessed best from the path by the wave pool. The main gate for bubbles is accessed from the east side of Soak City under where the old speed slides used to be.

Ahhh see it had been a couple of years (2005) since I had been to that part of the park. But good to know that I wasn't crazy (at least when it comes to that!)

I've had cleaning issues in the cottages almost every time, but I've also stayed in them on closing weekend each time, when the help is less helpful.

Well, like I said, I could be wrong...and clearly I was. But, why would the bartenders be checking IDs when it's a swim up bar? I thought the gate person was responsible for that, and that's why they give you a wristband. The 4 times I went to Bubbles this season, not once did the bartenders ID me because I already had a wrist band on from the gate. Just wondering.

LOL no problem. That's what copy and paste is for. I hope those links worked out for you and answered most of your questions.

Jeff, a lot of people told me that is the worst time of the year to stay at Lighthouse Point. Figure, they're sitting vacant for 5 days during Halloweekends until the park opens again on Fridays

Eh it's all good :) as I stated before, 2005 was the last time I had anything to do with Bubbles. But when I was placed on gate, I was responsible to check ID's and the bartender would usually not bother with it unless they were coming up on the "dry" side.

Though in the state of Ohio, the bartender holds ultimate responsibility not to serve to anyone under 21. That means that it's ultimately his responsibility to make sure everyone he serves is over 21 (IE checking ID.) If they decide to trust whoever is on the gate then hey that's their choice. :)

Even though the bartender is responsible I know that the location can be fined also if alcohol is served to anyone under 21. But there are special circumstances where that can happen, mostly if the management knows that underage drinking is going on and does not take steps to correct it.

And again my information may be outdated because I come by all this by working in a restaurant in 2007 :D (nothing like an online armchair lawyer!)

Thank you for the clarification Morté615. I've been trying to get into bartending and I'm learning as I'm going along.

2007 doesn't seem that long ago, but it's crazy how many things have been changed or altered in 5 years.

My only experience with LHP was on an opening weekend a few years ago. Our cabin was super clean, but as the first guests of the season, that's certainly to be expected.
