Concerts at CP

I think it'd be really cool if they had concerts on certain nights at CP. They could be open late and have a rock concert throughout the night. It would be pretty easy considering they have alot of equipment that they use in the laser show. Just think about how fun it would be: Ridin' rides all day long then gettin' in some mosh pits.

Good Idea. The only problem is that Cedar Point uses that time to clean the park and prep the park for the next day. That won't happen because so much goes on at night when the guests are not there. The park needs to be clear of people for the third shift crews to do their job.

It wouldnt hurt if they only stayed open till 12 and only let people to where the concert is.

I agree with that, the only problem is if it went past 12am

I'd prefer them to do it in the evening, seeing as how it might help clear the queues. :)

In my home park, Tivoli Gardens (Denmark), there are open-air concerts every friday evening. They´ve had Eric Clapton, Smashing Pumpkins, Mariah Carey, Sting and many others. It´s great, but it gets very crowdy around the stage. But it´s still very cool queuing for a B&M Florless (Dæmonen), while listening to Sugababes live.

Can anyone spot 3 coasters? (Dæmonen wasn´t build when this photo was taken). You can also see the stage (it looks a little pink from above) and the crowd area in front of it:

Did that sound right; Crowd area? ;)

It sure would draw some more people to the park. What would SF:DL be without it's concerts..... *** Edited 4/2/2006 8:28:47 PM UTC by CP4eva'04***

But we don't know what is still there now that they've changed that show around.

One word: LIABILITY.

The real question would be, where would they hold them? They would need an amphitheatre or something.

It would be a cool idea but you have to think about a few things.

WHOS PLAYING? Ceratin types of music bring in certain kinds of people. This could cause problems.

I could see them closing it to the general public a little earlier and selling a set number of wristband type things to actually see the concert. Or leaving the park open and only letting so many people in front of the stage.

I guess it could be done...its just a matter of how its done. And like wickeddragster said, it would have to done, cleared out (or on its way out) and out of the way by 1 or 2 am at the latest. Cleaning crews dont want to work all night.

Doesn’t matter where at the park you would have them. Guests staying in one of the resorts would be able to hear it. There is no good area to have a loud concert without keeping people awake. And what good is it to have a concert that is not loud? That is the exact reason that they don’t have employee movie nights on the laser screen anymore. Someone staying at the marina complained. So now they have a small sheet they hang on the Aquatic Stadium. Sucks if you ask me. I always thought the movies on the laser screen were really cool. Never thought they were that loud too.

So it doesn't matter where it is, someone will hear it and complain.

I think that if they did such a thing, that it would definitely be over by 1 or 2 am. In fact, it'd probably be done either in the afternoon, or be over by closing. With the cutbacks they've already made, there's no way they would have anything going until 1 or 2 in the morning, let alone 11 or 12.

It just wouldn’t make any sense to have some type of concert at Cedar Point with a known band. If it hasn’t happened yet, it’s not gonna.

Anykind of music that Cedar Point would allow to come to the park isn't the kind of music brennan would want to mosh to. Cedar Fair isn't going to stick it's neck out on the line when it comes to liability to bring in a demographic that it really doesn't want in the park.

haha yeah right.

there are PLENTY of demographics that Cedar Point doesn't want to come in the park.

But they come, and they pay the bills.

I think it would be cool if they had a big name play under the Lazer screen on the 4th of July, and have the fireworks right after the concert. Sell wrist bands and only have enough to have people stand infront of the booth and over to wildcat, they already have the baracade over by Iron dragon to direct traffic. I see no problems with that.

Toby Keith? 4th of July would be cool.

RIP MR.SCOTT The ONLY MAYOR OF LIGHTHOUSE

never mind the liability....it would just be a plain old pain in the butt for Cedar Point.

I have worked as a stagehand and can tell you that ALOT of work is needed for even a small show. That means closing off parts of the park and using forklifts & aerials around guests.

ALMOST every night at 10:05pm (or around there) at least one room in Hotel Brerakers complains of fireworks or loud music and demands that it be stopped. Also guests at Lighthouse Point complain when trash is emptied at Mean Streak (dumpsters banging)and during Big Bash the phones ring off the hook. I don't see a concert coming to CP.

Irish is right, I don’t think to many of you have taken the time to think about what it takes to put on a show. Look how far ahead of time they set up for Snoopy’s Summer Spectacular. And it’s a small operation. Not much involved. I’m only talking about the stage setup itself, not the pyro and show warm up. Not to mention the fact that there really isn’t a good location in the park for this to happen without closing off a large or highly used midway.

And other then logistics like Irish mentioned above, noise is the biggest problem. Like I said in an above post, that is why there are no more laser screen movies. One person complaining is all it takes. I’m surprised Big Bash hasn’t been toned down a bit because of noise.

Im not positive but I think that Ohio has a noise ordinance thats limits concerts to 11pm. I go to alot of big outdoor concerts in Cleveland and Columbus and they are always over before 11:30 at the latest.

But as IrsihEd said that is still too late for some people.

As a concert goer If a band I like played at CP I would definently try to go...However I think it would make for a rediculously busy day at the park and a poor concert acousticly where ever they put it. I'd rather just go to the park one day and drive out to blossom the next for the show.
