concerts

I was wondering why CP didn't have a place where they can have concerts. I am sure it would draw a lot of people and there are no houses right in the vicinity to interfere with because of noise. Just curious... I know most will say to save room for rides, but I think that this would be a nice addition as well
There actually is a very large stage in the Coliseum ballroom (above the arcade). It's kind of run down in there, but is still used several times each season. I always thought it would be great if they could renovate it into a glitzy ballroom of the Roaring Twenties.

It probably would be really cool to get a stage for a few acts to come along and play at CP for the season. PKI has their Timberwolf thing, which usually hosts for like, Britney Spears and Weird Al, which is not my cup of tea, but it always draws a big crowd of people to the park. They had some Christian band concert thing last year and sooooo many people were in the park with their band shirts and stuff, so I know it got a lot more than the regular bunch of park goers in there. So if CP did that and booked bands like, saaaaaay, Dave Matthews band, and Chemical Brothers, Orbital and Tool, hey, who's it gonna hurt except my ears and the other parks' admissions!! Good call, Mellissa!

Question: How do you explain the actions of millions of people who wait hours upon hours to be dropped down a hill???

Answer: Ask someone else, I'm waiting for DMB to play on CP's new concert stage!
This topic came up last year about this time. They are two things that don't mix, amusement parks and concerts. I know it works at other parks but I don't think it would at CP.

Is the ballroom availible for rent if someone wanted to host a wedding? Just wondering?
NO weddings are allowed on Cedar Point grounds. The ballroom is generally handled by marketing, who uses it for groups and conventions that take place at the park.

Dan, don't forget that the big bands and the ballroom saved CP at a time when many parks were going under. I think it's not a bad idea to have bands in the ballroom. Something like a Friday Night Concert Series may go over pretty well. Not just Rock and Roll, lets have some great Jazz/Blues bands, maybe some Swing and some Oldies also. A nice variety with something for everyone.
I would hate to be at CP (if the they had concerts) the day of a Britney Spears show and see tons of teeny-boppers running around. I agree, concerts and amusement parks don't mix. I might have been a good idea years ago when certain parks did not have a lot of rides, but the times have changed.
How could it be bad for business? Sure you may hate seeing a bunch of Britney Spears fans running around being annoying, but by a business standpoint you can't go wrong. You sell the tickets, get a little extra cash from the show, and on top of it they have to buy admission and enjoy the park to see the show at the end of the evening. It's a no brainer. I think a stage at the back of the park, or somewhere along the beach would be neat and would bring in more revenue and guests.

Answer: You don't...
If you're going to have a concert in a park, you can forget Britney Spears, Dave Matthews, or any other act that can fill a 20,000 seat or more arena...

The only way that concerts in a park are going to work is to have them as an added "freebie", up and coming acts, potential one-hit wonders, oldies bands way past their prime, and of course, the ever popular Weird Al.

If you've been to HersheyPark, they pull this off quite nicely.
