Concealed Weapons at CP

Give it a rest. If you think there's some leftist conspiracy in the media then it only supports my point that most of America is too stupid to make up their own mind about anything.

The US is the last country in the civilized world that thinks that every citizen should have a gun because, goddammit, it's our right. I'm not saying that people who have guns are irresponsible, because I don't think they are, it's just it strikes me as a problem in search of a solution.

I'll never get how having every person who can pick up a handgun armed is safer than not.

What time does the water show start?

Oooooh, what a big flaming scary horrible issue!

It's no big deal. Guess what? VF is already in a carry-and-conceal state.

All a private property owner needs is a sign at the front gate--'Cedar Point bans guns'--and they can prosecute anybody who tries to carry one.

VF posts signs. They don't have metal detectors and they haven't had any major incidents.

The MN State fair draws as many visitors in ten days as CP draws in two months...again, no major incidents.

And when you consider that CP has its own police force to boot--what's all the fuss about?

In my 45 years, I've never been in a situation where I've felt I've needed a gun. Could I be the victim of an armed robbery or other crime in the future? Sure, but by the time I've figured out what is going on, there would probably be a gun pointed at me and it would be to late to take out my weapon.

Digital Daredevil paints a good picture of the drawbacks of carrying a weapon. Personally, I'd never carry one. Leave the guns to the people who are trained to carry them as part of their job.

I really didn't mean to start a controversial discussion about the relative merits of carrying a concealed weapon, and I apologize for that. This was a pretty devisive issue in Ohio for a number of years, and many people have strong feelings, on both sides. I was simply wondering what, if any effect there would be at a major amusement park, now that a new law has been enacted. The law is a fact, and that introduces new conditions. Speculation on the changed conditions is all I was looking for. Personally, I don't think it will be a problem, and if there is one, I would expect that the Cedar Point Police Department would have at least addressed the issue during training. But it's nice to hear what others think.

Don't get me wrong about this...I don't own a gun and never plan to. Furthermore, I think the MN gun laws are about as mindlessly stupid as it gets. Think about the provision I mentioned in my prior post--basically it means every single public place there is has to have a sign with the word 'Gun' on it at each and every entrance. Why on earth does a BANK have to post a sign banning guns? I mean yeesh!

It's just that a puddle of stupid at the local amusement park doesn't register when you swim in a sea of stupid every day.

Don't quote me but I am almost positive the "No Firearms" rule has been in the park guides for years. I think there is even a rule about that at the hotels. If someone with a legal firearm checks into the hotel I believe the staff is required to call the CPPD so they can log it in.

Might be wrong but something strikes me as familiar about this.

"You can dream, create, design and build the most wonderful place in the world...but it requires people to make the dreams a reality."

I thought this was a good thread. It was entertaining and educational. A legit question that was relevant to the park. We did stray off a bit and the Powers that Be chimed in.

In closing, most people will never be in a situation where they would need to, be justified to, or should have a firearm, but since the law has been passed, its now a moot issue.

Common sense needs to prevail.

Arguing over the media is like saying what is better, hamburgers or hotdogs. No matter what your opinion is, there will always be a heated debate over which is best. So politics is never a cut and dried thread to discuss.

Sorry I havent been on in a while...

RGR, Daredevil... I personally do not want a gun, nor do i want anyone else with one. I didnt mean what I said to be taken the way it was, and I hope and pray that none of us are ever in a situation where we would need one.
