What other wooden coasters have people been on first hand that you found significantly better, worse, or similar roughness to mean streak? Personally, the roughest I have been on was probably screaming eagle at six flags St. Louis but I still really enjoyed it and the smoothest was prowler at worlds of fun when it was brand new.
Top Steel: New Texas Giant
Top Wood: Timberwolf (don't judge me..)
My favorite wood coasters are the Phoenix at Knoebels and Ravine Flyer II at Waldameer. I can't get enough of either of them. I'm going to Dollywood soon and I can't wait to try the Thunderhead. I have a feeling from what I've read this one might rank highly for me.
Shivering Timbers at Michigan's Adventure is my favorite woodie, but it is an out and back.
Cedar Point, Americas rip- rockin', high flyin', sky defyin', record breakin' roller coast
Haven't been to many different parks so the only woodies I've had the chance to ride other than CP were Big Dipper and Raging Wolf Bobs. Big Dipper would beat the snot out of you but it was fun anyway.
The rough wooden s I've been on are the old hades( worst experience ever) at mt Olympus, the boss at six flags St. Louis( better than mean streak), and timber wolf at worlds of fun( an equal to mean streak). My favorite wooden though is el toro which is right above thunderhead at dollywood and boulder dash at lake compound.
By far my favorite wood coaster (and favorite coaster overall, sorry Millennium) is El Toro. That thing is crazy intense. After going to Great Adventure yesterday and riding it some more, it made me remember why I love it so much.

don't pick on poor old Timberwolf... notice my signature, haha. I will admit it has kicked my butt a few times but always in an "wow that was crazy" sort of way rather than a "ouch I'm never doing that again." My last trip to worlds of fun this year there were only 4 riders on my train myself included. One was the person I dragged on to the ride with me, one asked why the ride was still operating, and the fourth cried. I never experienced any pain on mean streak even though it is a little rattley so I would agree that the two are comparable, if Timberwolf isn't slightly more rough.
I have also witnessed multiple crying children on the Wildcat at Frontier City, was surprised by Ghost Rider at Knotts and The Voyage at Holiday World because I thought both would be smoother, found The Raven at Holiday World was actually fairly jolting, and was completely shocked my first few rides on Beast at Kings Island when I realized the back was smoother than the front even though for most woodies it seems to be the opposite. I also thought that Rattler and Texas Giant should stay before their alterations, so I think I must have a high tolerance and appreciation compared to most people when it comes to woodies (the roughest 3 I have been on were all steel), but in the end the Iron Horse treatment served New Texas Giant amazingly and promise anyone who hasn't been on a Rocky Mountain coaster that you would LOVE to have them work on Mean Streak. In some form or fashion I think Mean Streak has to stay and it is on par with the roughness of most other woodies I have been on. It really shocks me when people are so adamant about it being painful or unbearable.

Count me in the "painful or unbearable" club. Meanstreak is the only wooden coaster I have rode that hurts my back, gives me a headache and provides a good dose of motion sickness all at the same time. Although, somebody posted how to ride it in another thread which I may try.
How long is the ride on wooden coasters in other parks compared to Mean Streak? I was under the impression Mean Streak is a generally long coaster. If that's the case could it be not so much the roughness itself but that it seems to go on forever?
the worst woodie that compares to MS is Hercules which is long gone as well as SOB but Cyclone at Coney will beat you up too!
I rode Grizzly and Hurler at Kings Dominion last year and have to say that those two wooden roller coasters beat me up on either the sharp turns or the dips in the hills. If you guys think Mean Streak is bad, you haven't ridden those two. :)
Has anybody actually ridden new texas giant/iron rattler that opposes an iron horse treatment for mean streak?

Texas Giant used to be as crappy as Mean Streak, but the investment to redo it was quite nice. It's my second favorite ride at the park behind Titan's third hill.
I oppose an iron treatment for Mean Streak. I would rather see that thing burn down and they build a new wooden coaster in that footprint. Perhaps a racing/dueling one
The worst discomfort I've ever had on Mean Streak is the jackhammering that occurs on most rides I've experienced on the second drop. I've had shuffling, slow rides a few times during cold weather, and minor discomfort in a few other spots.
Compare that to my one ride on Wolverine Wildcat which I thought was going to give me brain damage, it shuffled and jackhammered so much. And the average ride on Timber Wolf the last few times I've been to Worlds of Fun has been twice as bad as the worst ride I've ever had on Mean Streak.
As Robb Alvey says on most rough woody POVs he's done, most Curtis Summers coasters are tit jigglers. There's something about the design of a Dinn/Summers coaster that leads to rough rides after a few years. When Timber Wolf first opened it was an AMAZING ride, just as CP regulars attest to Mean Streak at the beginning. Just as many have been wishing, I too think a GCI or GG wooden coaster is overdue for at Cedar Point, and then maybe they could do either Rocky Mountain topper track for the whole circuit or the iron horse total makeover for Mean Streak.
I think mean streaks roughness is due to age and design while timberwolf is a combination of age, design, and maintance. Timberwolf and mean streak both have a few years left in them in my opinion, but unfortunately, timberwolf doesn't really lend itself to a iron horse treatment except potentially as a family coaster although I do not see that happening. So while mean streak has a chance to live out the rest of its years in style when timberwolf is done, its done. I tell myself that on its last day of operation I will marathon it as long as possible to the point where I won't miss it (as badly that is) from a combination of satisfying the years more of rides I wish I had and the ensuing pain the following day.
