COMMON Entries Contest RESULTS

Congratulations to Gemini, Scott Cameron and Pro Bob, for guessing/knowing what the rest of us would say and scoring as the top three entrants out of 58 CP fans.

The answers to all questions are listed below. Each individual's answers can be found at http://www.tdsffl.com/cp0203answers.htm and the final standings are at http://www.tdsffl.com/cp0203scores.htm .

Feel free to discuss away, and thanks again for joining in the fun!

1. Name something at Cedar Point that you can purchase “by the pound”.

31 - Fudge
11 - Taffy
9 - Candy
3 - Nuts
1 - Burger
1 - Food
1 - Fries
1 - Chocolate

For this question, I judged "candy" to be a separate answer from "fudge", "taffy", or "chocolate", since there are several kinds of candy (especially in the Pagoda Gift Shop) that can be purchased by the pound.

2. Name any obstacle on either of the two Challenge Golf putt-putt courses.

20 - Water
17 - Rocks
7 - Windmill
6 - Cave
5 - Hills
2 - Sand Trap
1 - Ramp

Is there even a windmill on the Challenge Putt course?

3. Give the location of a drinking fountain within the park.

17 - Magnum restrooms
8 - In front of the COliseum Arcade
8 - Space Spiral
7 - Main gate restrooms
4 - Kiddy Kingdom
2 - By the bathroom
2 - Near Gemini's exit
2 - Outside Tinker's Toys
2 - Raptor Restrooms
2 - Between Wildcat and CP&LE RR
1 - Frontier Town
1 - Millennium Force Restrooms
1 - Old Frontier Lift building in Frontier Town
1 - Park Ops

4. To the nearest mile, how many miles does the average guest walk at Cedar Point in a day?

13 - 5
11 - 4
7 - 6
6 - 10
5 - 3
3 - 12
3 - 15
1 - 1.5
1 - 7.5
1 - 94
1 - 100
1 - 8
1 - 14
1 - 7
1 - 20
1 - 25
1 - 2

This was the question with easily the most variety, since there really isn't a finite set from which to choose. You know if I ask for "nearest mile" and your answer is something-point-five, you're not going to score well. Likewise, I want to meet the guy who is walking 100 miles per day at the Point. In defense of the guy who answered "94", that was likely supposed to be his answer for the Peanuts 500 question, but I have to score where you put 'em.

5. Give the name of a Cedar Point restaurant/food stand that begins with the letter “G”.

32 - Gulliver's Grill
9 - Gazebo
4 - Good Time Refreshments
4 - Grist Mill
3 - Gourmet Soft Pretzels
2 - Gemini Hot Dogs
1 - Great Eats
1 - Gyro Stand
1 - No answer
1 - There isn't one

Why the letter "G", you wonder? Simple. There are more restaurants beginning with "C" or "S", but "Coasters" and "Silver Dollar" would have been too obvious as answers. I was surprised by the number of people who answered "Gulliver's Grill", as it didn't seem that obvious to me.

6. Name an attraction that Cedar Point features ONLY during Halloweekends.

25 - Fright Zone
13 - Toxic Tunnel of Terror
5 - Haunted House
5 - Undertaker U
4 - Pharoah's Secret
2 - Boo Hill
1 - Aaron Raditz
1 - Camp Spooky
1 - Costume Contest
1 - Screamsters

As in question #1, I considered "Haunted House" to be a separate answer from "Undertaker U" since it could easily be argued that Boo Hill and the Toxic Tunnel could be considered haunted houses as well.

7. Give a number of any car featured in the Peanuts 500.

23 - 24
11 - 94
7 - 1
7 - 3
3 - 23
2 - 7
2 - 13
1 - 4
1 - 5
1 - 500

I found it curious as I was receiving the answers that so many people answered "94". Then I looked at the picture of Peanuts 500 on the official CP website, and the answer was obvious. Still a lot of Jeff Gordon fans out there, it seems.

8. Name any shop on the Frontier Trail.

15 - Candle Shop
12 - Glassblowers Shop
6 - Olde Time Photo Shop
6 - Woodcarver Shop
3 - Signmaker
2 - Frontier Merchant
2 - No answer
2 - Toot Sweets
1 - Berry Market
1 - Caricatures
1 - Cedar Creek Trading Company
1 - Chuck Wagon
1 - Create a Friend
1 - Emporium
1 - Fort Sandusky
1 - Frontier Inn
1 - Leather Works
1 - Thunder Canyon Dry Goods

After receiving some of the answers, I had to double-check to make sure that I said "Trail" and not "Town".

9. Not including roller coasters, give the name of a Cedar Point ride whose official name is one word.

33 - Chaos
6 - Dodgem
6 - Troika
4 - Calypso
3 - Scrambler
2 - Matterhorn
2 - Monster
1 - Carousel
1 - Schwabinchen

10. Name a Cedar Point roller coaster featuring at least four left turns.

16 - Raptor
8 - Gemini
8 - Millennium Force
8 - Mine Ride
6 - Mean Streak
4 - Magnum
3 - Wildcat
2 - Mantis
1 - Blue Streak
1 - Disaster Transport
1 - Iron Dragon

At least nobody said "Wicked Twister"!

You are correct - there isn't a windmill in Challenge Golf. And I don't know about everyone else, but I know why I answered 24 for #7. I was hoping that would score well :)

I was going to put 24 from that picture, but I put 3 instead, thinking people would put that after reviewing that photo a little more.

Why didn't I trust my first impulse?? :)

Fun contest. I feel like I'm looking at NTN Network Rankings!

Congrats Gemini!......I did much better than last time #11....I took a little bit longer and didnt rush through the questions like the previous game.....I know.....excuses are like A-holes....everyone has them and they all stink!....much more respectable.....Great game Duane!

I was thinking that Earnhardt's #3 (also in the picture) would be more famous still, but Gordon's 24 would have definitely been my next choice and I almost went with it due to that picture.

I'm also really surprised that I was the only person who said Create a Friend as the store on Frontier Trail. Candle shop was my other thought, but I figured it'd blend in with the glass shop, wood shop, photo shop, etc.

This one was fun though! These take much less time to answer than the RARE Entries too! :)

1st place to 10th place.. still not bad.. I like the rare one better honestly.. I think it's a little more challenging...

Well done Duane..

(note is it me or is there a problem with your formula on the results sheet? You last collum seems to be messed up)

Gemini, just to let you know I did choose 24 because of that picture on your site. Seems like it paid off.
Rob -

The last column is each entrant's aggregate score, determined by multiplying each answer (in rare entries, I add). That's why Walt's score was something like 4 quadrillion.

Too bad it wasn't the sum instead of the product, I would've won!
Aren't Chocolate and fudge considered to be the same thing?

------------------
What is most anticipated event of 2003? the debut of Dragster, the release of Metallica's new album, the release of Terminator 3, or the release of Matrix:Reloaded...tough call.

Chocolate is one of the flavors of fudge that the park sells. However, you can also buy chocolate bars, chocolate covered bananas, chocolate dippin' dots, chocolate milk, chocolate milkshakes, etc etc.

By the same token, you can get fudge in peanut butter, mint, chocolate marshmallow and a whole host of other flavors that I can't recall at the moment.

Well, if I would have known that, I would have put down fudge instead. :) Do you have any idea where I would have placed had I said fudge?

Yep I do (but you don't really wanna know, do you?)

I'm a girl.

And I practically do walk 100 miles because my sister runs off and I have to look for her in a 364 acre amusement park.

The big hill, the sheer drop, the incredible speed. Long live Millennium Force!

Some of us walk more than others, obviously. And I should have gone with my first choice of challenge golf obstacle (water, but I thought that was too general), and Raptor, although it seemed that had more right turns than left to me, which is why I picked CCMR instead.

Now the question is this... when we say water.. are we talking the water that is supposed to be there or the water on the course when it rains and floods??? ;)

The funny thing is that after watching many of the videos for rides (excluding Raptor) the only rides with 4 left turns are CCMR and ID. Neither of these did that good.
