As many of you have probably already seen, Maverick commercials have begun airing now that the ride has opened. All the ones I have seen include actual footage as well as animation footage. Interestingly, the animation footage includes the heartline roll (but the GP will neither notice, nor care).
The commerical also features an old "gold rusher" type fellow who does the talking. During his spiel he says, "The world's first teracoaster!" What? Has this been mentioned in marketing elsewhere? Anyone else seen this?

I'm not sure how to put a link in a post, but I know that the "terra-coaster' has already been discussed pretty heavily.

I am glad that the commercials are out, they really make me excited to get there, and it helps that my friends and coworkers finally know what I'm talking about!
The radio spots all talk about the "world's first terra-coaster" as well. I've heard a Maverick/CP commercial every day on the radio since Monday.
"You ain't scared are ya??? Come to Cedar Point to ride Maverick!"
I'd rather die living than live like I'm dead
I'm not sure that's a fair lable actually... I'm there are a lot fo good terrain huggers that actually use natural terrain... the best of which is probably Boulder Dash at Lake Compounce here in Connecticut, it's basically a kick-butt woodie in a typical out and back configuration, but it's built into a steep hill-side such that it stays only a few feet off the ground the entire time whipping through trees and rocks while maintain an average speed of 55 mph all the way through... I mean, Maverick may be a great coaster, but really.... the "Terra" aspect is nothing we haven't see at on Thunder Mountain Railroad at Disney... Maverick certainly isn't the first ride to incorporate a bunch of brown plaster, and while cool, it can't be what makes Maverick a great ride.
How else would Phantom's Revenge get a drop 68 feet more than the lift height other than by using terrain?
Sounds like a terra coaster to me.
It's really just a marketing thing, they aren't calling Guinness about it or anything.
eat. sleep. ride! - Coaster apparel and accessories!
Ride on, MrScott!
I don't want to start another topic, but it does relate to commercials.
In the couple of commercials I have seen just a few moments ago, they showed rides that don't belong to Cedar Point. I believe it was Ghost Rider from Knott's Berry Farm, and the drop ride also at Knott's.
Anyone else see this?
^Yes they have been doing that for the past couple years and is it really that big of a deal? VERY few people realize it.

I still don't like that theme parks do this. They're advertising a park with certain rides in it, but showing rides at some other park. That's like advertising a car and showing pictures of some other car. People go to a theme park to ride rides. If you show different rides in your commercial than are really at your park, you're misleading people.
What if TTD showed up in a Dorney Park commercial? You don't think people would be pissed once they got there and the ride wasn't there? Why's it ok to do this with some rides and not others?
ok dude youre not really misleading if you show a drop ride when cedar point has one its a lot easier and cheeper to get ride footage from one park and use it in anothers that has similar rides. It probably costs a lot of money to get some high tech cameras up there safely, pay someone to edit it and then pay for a time slot on tv. besides every year they do some commercials with other parks footage and some of their own
I agree. Kings Island also uses this strategy a lot, showing several roller coasters in their commercials that are not even there. Is the Beast not good enough for you, Kings Island?!?! >: O

I know a lot of people disagree with me. But, I think it's lazy on the part of the park. Then again, I think it's lame they use the same names over and over again at their parks.
In my opinion, it just lessens the brand image.
Ok so far I have seen 3 commercials one had a prospector and an animated version of maverick, one where they go they come from near and far and say ride on ride warriors ride on, and a family one and the only one where they dont show cedar point rides is the family one because its a generic they use for all the parks they just sub out words and a few clips.
I never understand the whole "clone" thing with coasters. Very few people go to more than one or two different amusement parks. Majority of the CP crowd maybe travel to KI and GL and maybe go to the Orlando Parks or out in California.
We're the exception to this and I think that's why the argument comes up more.

My apologies for not realizing a thread already existed on this particular topic. Even though I am a regular, I never noticed one.
Just for clarity, I thought the name was interesting because hearing it in a commercial made me think it was spelled "tera" not "terra." This was funny because I was thinking more along the lines of Millennium Force being giga-coaster and Dragster being a "strato-coaster." While these types of category naming are completely irrelevent except for a method of distinguishing two styles of coasters easily, I would have thought "tera" would be saved for something like a 500 footer (and maybe it will be).
Heck, if they put in the 500 footer eventually, it can be their 2nd world's first tera coaster!
