So, I noticed many of the coasters that exclude inversions seem to be leaving from the park...
WildCat, Disaster Transport, Mean Streak...
Seems like inversions seem to be more of this era. 4 of CP's most recent coasters all include inversions if you count Rougarou as a "new coaster". I prefer coasters with less inversions. Weird to say but I do. I love rides like Magnum, MF, Gemini etc.
I would love to see CP get something like Nitro at Great Adventure or Behemoth at Wonderland. A basic out and back B and M coaster that has a high thrill factor.
Coasters with no inversions seem to be deteriorating... which is why they've been removed.
New for 2024- Wicked Twister Plus
RMC Mean Streak will probably feature inversions, but it won't be an inversion-only ride like Raptor or Rougarou. It'll include a lot of airtime, knowing RMC.
I've noticed this as well. Too much in the inversion department gives my husband a migraine and just makes that many more coasters he can't ride with me. I love the inversions and all but old fashioned out and back with plenty of airtime will always be my favorite layout.
Millennium, Magnum, Wicked Twister, Blue Streak, Iron Dragon, Mine Ride, Gemini
Raptor, Rougarou, Valravn, Corkscrew, Maverick, Gatekeeper
(excluding Pipe Scream, Wilderness Run, and Woodstock Express)
Coasters with inversions: 6
Coaster with no inversions: 7
Looks pretty balanced from my perspective. Add in the new RMC in 2018, and we will have a dead heat.
What need would an out and back coaster with no inversions fill at Cedar Point?
Promoter of fog.
Honestly it's because within the last 20 years we have coasters that can complete inversions without giving you an aneurysm. The heartland roll on Valraven is a perfect example. It's the best part of the ride on a coaster that's known for its drops, granted it may be because of the restraints.
Ha. How in the world did I overlook that?
Yea, what cpfourlife1 said. The 1980's were the original heyday of inversions (that I was alive for); Vortex, Great American Scream Machine, etc...all the "cool" coasters were multi-inversion Arrows. Then the 1990's came and gave us B&M inverts, stand-ups, and floorless coasters.
That last inversion on Valravn is one of the best elements of any coaster at Cedar Point, and while the removed-inversion probably would have killed us all by now, the inversions on Maverick are silky-smooth.
I don't know that we're in some new hay-day of inversions; I think Cedar Point is in a hay-day of bringing balance and well-rounded offerings to its guests. Gatekeeper is an excellent example. While it may look extreme to a coaster youngling, it's extremely tame and re-rideable, which is exactly what I think CP was going for.

I've always been a huge fan of B&M inversions. Arrow inversions on the other hand sometimes give me headaches. I think it may seem unbalanced to people because the last several new coasters have had inversions.
2018- Raptor
CP Top 5- 1)MF 2) Maverick 3) Gatekeeper 4) Top Thrill Dragster 5) Raptor
I find Cedar Point to be balanced as far as inversion/non-inversion coasters go. Having said that, I have a personal gripe with Arrow and how they designed the entry to every corkscrew. Demon at SF: Great America and Vortex at Kings Island have both karate chopped my neck sooo hard that I though they fractured something in my neck.

I find this thread a little comical in that not 4 years ago, people were complaining that Cedar Point didn't have enough inversions.
Before Gatekeeper, there was Corkscrew, Raptor, Mantis, and Maverick totaling 15 inversions. Of course, I think a lot of us were still under the delusion that we were somehow competing with a year-round park in California. Since, we've had Gatekeeper (6) and Valravn (3), with the Rougarou conversion giving Mantis a much-needed sprucing up.
There obviously has been more attention put on high thrill, multiple inversion coasters at this point, but I don't see this being a trend that every single coaster that Cedar Point builds is going to have multiple inversions and be gigantic. I think these last two have served a purpose in making statements aesthetically and with updating infrastructure at the gates. Including highly visible inversions has somewhat been a trademark of Cedar Point's inversion-laden coasters aside from Maverick, but even those are visible to a point from the train. I think Valravn and especially Gatekeeper served a purpose that future new coasters won't necessarily have aside from thrill.
Regardless, I think it's pretty balanced right now and will continue to balanced going forward.

First off, if you prefer no inversions, you still have: MF, TTD, Gemini, Magnum, Wicked Twister, Iron Dragon, CCMR (and Pipe Scream if you count it).
Secondly, I totally agree that a B&M hyper would be great at the Point. I have ridden almost 300 coasters across Canada, the US and Europe, and have ridden most of the B&M hypers. I've been on Silver Star, Mako, Nitro, Raging Bull, Behemoth, Goliath (La Ronde), Apollo's Chariot, Shambhala, Diamondback and Intimidator. The top 3 are: 1. Behemoth 2. Mako 3. Shambhala.
Anyway, a good B&M hyper with great airtime, a good helix and maybe even a splashdown (would be a CP first) would be an awesome fit for the park.
RMC Mean Streak: 215ft Tall, 75mph, 4 inversions. 2020)ALL BLACK B&M Flying Coaster on Millennium Island. 2023 or 2025) Gerstlauer Euro-Fighter like Takabisha
