Coasters 3.0

Cedar Point opened "Hardee's" on Causeway Drive in 1993. The fried Chicken and Roast Beast failed to turn heads or register receipts.

In 1997, Cedar Point tried again with "Coasters,"
only to find the fried delicacies also offered every 20 feet on the C.P. Midway went over like "Christmas in the Park."

Now, it is official.

The FOR LEASE sign is down.
A small plastic sign has been tacked to the fading blue roof of the former Coasters building.

Opening in 2001, across from McDonalds will be none other than "East of Chicago Pizza."
Probably a better choice, we'll see!

I think they should make another fast food resterant. Mcdonalds is always packed. People usually dont want to get out of there are car after a long day at the park. Maybe a Burger King or Wendys. Just a thought.

The problem is that while they may be packed in the summer, they're not in the winter. Business is so light in the off-season that they have reduced hours. East of Chicago should do OK because delivery is such a big part of the business.

And the amazing thing is that McDonald's still has the worst service in the history of fast food places even in the off-season.

Anyone know if this is a CP owned franchise, or if they leased the building to a different company?
Actually, Hardees seemed to to pretty well until the chain self-destructed. When Cedar Point opened that location, Hardees had the best food of any major fast-food chain. By the time the franchise ended, the selection had gone downhill and the food quality...not just there, but through the entire chain...had gone WAY south.

Now Hardees is improving again, but they blew it in Sandusky.

South like to FL - I can't get away from it here. ;)

CP just leased the building and is NOT going to be running East Of Chicago Pizza.
I just hope the pizza place is open after the park closes...employees are always hungry at all times of the night! Besides, Dominoes was always slow, not to mention trying to get a line out to even call them.
Funny you mention slow service in the offseason, Jeff. I went to get an ice cream cone one day, and it literally took 15 minutes. That McD's also charges for ice water- a pretty big rip off, saying that I bought something with it.
No kidding about the service at the McDonald's near Cedar Point, Jeff. I went there last year with a small group of friends and they managed to mess our order up three times at the drive-thru window. We had to park the car, go inside the restaurant, and work everything out. The kicker came when we asked for BBQ sauce after the fiasco had ended and they told us we still had to pay 25 cents for each packet of sauce we needed, despite the fact we wasted 20 minutes correcting all their mistakes. I applaud the decision of putting in a pizza place for the sake of the employees who live off point within walking distance.
Isn't Breakers Express across the street from that? If it is then it should do well! After a day at the park why not order pizza from the Breakers Express (where your staying!) ? I think it is a great idea!

I, for one, think they should tear it down and use the land for some much needed employee housing.

Dan - it doesn't seem to be in that great of a location for Sandusky residents. Granted, it's a great spot for CP seasonal employees and guests, but if a restaurant can only make a profit (albeit a huge one) for 4 months out of the year, it isn't going to do that well in the long run.
