Coasters & G-forces >> Looking for simple data

Hey everybody,

I was just watching the show 'Sports Science,' and the episode was about G-forces. It said that a NASCAR driver experiences 3 G's when going through a turn, and an Indy Car driver can sustain up to 4 G's. It also said that a top fuel dragster driver experiences 5 G's.

I know that TTD is supposed to emulate a dragster, but I know it doesn't pull 5 G's - does anyone here know the exact amount? In addition, what other coasters compare to the aforementioned G levels?

Thanks for your time

The helix at the end of Raptor has some really good g-forces.

^ The end of raptor pulled my eyelids down.

Millennium Force pull 4 G's. I watched a video about roller coasters in Physics yesterday. Most of the coasters that were on the video were from Cedar Point. Everyone was shocked when I said I went there every year and have rode many of the rides they showed. It was a very interesting video. I wish I knew where I could buy it. I will ask my teacher where he got it. I really recommend it!

Wildcat pulls over 5. Only very briefly though.

I tend to black out on millie..when you go down the first hill. Also, Mavie's first drop is a "doozie". I would say Mavie is the best for g's!

^ Me too! Millenium definately has some major G forces going there. But I do agree with Lone Ranger on Raptor's helix having some really good G forces. That part of the coaster makes it feel like you are on the Gravitron.

Raptors last helix makes my feet get that feeling like their asleep. IT doesn't feel to good.

Let's Get Weird.

With some simple math (and rough estimation), Dragster is about 4.5 g's at the bottom of the pull-up/pull-out (this is assuming the track is a perfect circle, which it's not, and I think CP likes to max out at 4 (vertical) g's on almost everything new that they build).

Raptors helix at the end pulls around 4 Gs. Maverick has some good negative Gs. I know a lot of people that blackout on MF and Dragster due to the Gs. Most blackouts occur around 3Gs or more, but I don't believe that CP has anything that goes over 4.5 Gs.

^Just a nit, its not a blackout unless you lose consciousness. If you lose only your vision, then its a "grey out" and not that serious (in fact thats your body telling you you need some water) but if you actually black out, thats not good, that means for whatever reason your brain thought you weren't getting enough oxygen.

My friend will completely loose consciousness, and his head will fall over onto his shoulder until the end of the first tunnel.

^Then he should seriously consider not riding. Thats dangerous, one time he may just never wake up.

This is true. If you really lose consiousness on a ride, you should not ride.

I am fully aware of the g forces on mantis. My legs yell at me every time i ride it. I get the centerfuge feeling in my legs, at times its quite painful. I dont ride that much because of that.
