CoasterMania! '01 is upon us, and I have a special request for any CoasterManiacs who may be attending the presentation after morning ERT.
A few years ago, I think it was for CoasterMania '99, Ron Toomer, retired president of Arrow Dynamics, gave a very nice presentation, well received by his adoring fans. This presentation was followed by a Q&A session, which included some very interesting questions and answers.
But a large number of those questions were questions which, while they could have easily been answered by the Cedar Point marketing staff, Mr. Toomer was, reasonably enough, not prepared to answer. A little thinking on the part of the forum participants would have gone a long way.
For that reason I ask that if you are planning to ask questions, please think carefully about the nature of the question. According to the details on this very web site, the presenter is a representative of Intamin. So ask him questions about Intamin and about designing, building, and operating Intamin rides. Ask questions that a representative of Intamin is prepared to answer. Want to know how the park decided to build a ride, how the name was picked, or why it is marketed the way it is? Ask the park, not the manufacturer. Want to know about a particular ride (Intamin rides at Cedar Point are Millennium Force, Disaster Transport, and Junior Gemini; also possibly the two Schwarzkopf rides, the Giant Wheel and Wildcat) or the design process, or engineering? That's when you ask the manufacturer.
The bottom line is, think before you ask about what kinds of questions the presenter is capable of answering. You'll get a much more satisfying response, and the show will be better for everyone.
Thank you!

whats so great about coastermania?? are the lines really short? i realize all of the big coaster enthusiasts are there but whats so great about that
I'm glad you posted this - I was thinking the same thing. There is no reason to ask Intamin why it is blue.
Time to leave - I'm on my way!
Can we ask Dave why it's blue?

Hey guys, I'm back!
Somebody has got to ask "What is you tallest coaster?"
If nobody else does, I will.
Good thing you don't have to spell it for him. Then you'd look really stupid.

Futuristic bow-wow... do the dog catcher!
Ask who the heck Intamin is? They seem to outsource everything, but the hypers and the launched inverts seem to be in-house. Who builds and designs?
Intamin is blue ?? huh , im confused

So, does anyone have any examples of the questions they asked (or heard asked)?

I recall someone asking about the depth of the footers- apparently only about 10 feet or so. Also the advantages and disadvantages of using a cable lift system- faster and lower maintenance than a chain lift. And why the different types of track sections( 2 rails type, triangular type and square type) -usage depends upon the load. I know that there were other questions about: steel track manufacturing, why MF is so smooth, will Intamin go higher, the MF layout, the height requirement change from 54" to 48", if LIM's were possible or considered for this ride, and if there was anything that you would have done differently knowing what you know now a year later if you could have. Anyone care to comment on these or other questions that were asked?
I attended the second of the two sessions, and I got it on videotape. No promises, but...er...as the saying goes, "watch this space."
