I'm not sure if a one day downtime is automatically "major issues"
But - the ride did not open for a second Coastermania in a row. But it looks like the park (to paraphrase an old Pointbuzz classic) made everyone whole with a one day Fastlane+ good for the rest of the season, added Gemini to evening ERT, extended Magnum ERT and also opened up Wilderness Run for a while.
Folks are still clamoring online for a full refund for their event ticket, but those same folks gladly ate the food, took the tshirt, enjoyed the cruise and spent the entire ERT session riding roller coasters. And the ones that are saying the one day Fastlane+ "does them no good" because they have the all season Fastlane package have already been on TT2 dozens of times this year anyway.
Major enough to close the midway, and closed as of now still, so yeah, I'd say it's worth mentioning. The fast lane + is great for those without all season fast lane, but for those of us already with it, they really didn't do anything for us.
I’m not certain where the line is between a major and non-major issue closing a ride. Based upon the reported inspections of the spike last night after the park closed and the recent issues with the trains makes me think this could indeed be a major issue. We’ve all seen this movie before and I personally was not a fan of the first version, I’m not really looking forward to a sequel this season!
They gave everyone a one day fastline+ since Top Thrill was closed for the day? Last year, they gave everyone a one-time-use fastlane+ for Top Thrill being closed. Man, I guess some Cedar Point fans aren't happy unless they aren't happy. If you already have an all-season fastlane+, give it to a friend or something.
If you already have all season Fastlane I'd presume you have already logged a nice number of rides on TT2 this year. Likely more than you would have had the chance to do during 90 minutes of ERT.
What exactly do you think they should have done besides provide the Fastlane and open up extra rides during ERT? Especially when they didn't even have to do that!
SuperS0nicSam:
Major enough to close the midway
The closed the midway so people could not walk through that area? Was this during normal park hours?
The midway had to be shut down after the park closed last night as we walked through there on our way to the boardwalk just prior to closing.
Folks at Coastermania did not pay to ride TT2, they paid for ERT time that had rides which were subject to change without notice. The fact that the park did anything is going above and beyond. Everyone in our family has all season fast lanes but I’d be happy being offered a free one as we take others with us quite often that do not have the fast lanes.
I am not sure what the cause of TT2 being shut down is. There is a possibility it could have something to do with the electrical system but the feeders are underground and the midway was closed for overhead work. If it was the electrical supply the most likely culprit would be a transformer outage as that is one of the only things that can't be fixed quickly even if you throw tons of money at it. Due to the issues with the trains for the past week or so and the repelling cables still dangling off the structure I have a feeling it is something worse than an electrical issue.
Gotta say, we had an awesome time at the park yesterday. It was a bit of a bummer that TT2 was closed as my daughter brought a friend who hasn't rode it yet and was really looking forward to it. My wife and I were able to wander around and ride what we wanted to, the flatbread pizzas at the Grand Pavilion are really good as is the hospitality of the bartenders up there!
Now, it is time for my soapbox rant though, apologies in advance. Even though I might not be sorry.
It is rather disappointing to see how much more valuable anyone who attended Coastermania is to CP than all of the regular folks who did not get to ride TT2 yesterday. Why wasn't everyone comp'd with a free Fast Lane Plus? I guess all guests aren't equal any longer and they value the whiny entitled enthusiast class more than others.
To me it makes no difference as I am at the park quite often. But why are those who purchased a CM ticket and received ERT for several hours before the park opened and after the park closed received a meal, T-Shirt and boat ride all of a sudden more important than anyone else? Gemini and Maverick miraculously opened for CM ERT yet they couldn't open them during the day for regular guests? Yep, I'm in full Kevin mode on this one and it is not for me but rather for all of those who attended a TT2, Gemini and Maverickless park yesterday and got nothing for it...
Some of the best examples of bad human behavior I’ve ever witnessed has been at enthusiast events. Which is precisely why I don’t go to them anymore. And if I owned a park I wouldn’t host one.
I honestly don’t get all the hate for Coastermania this year. The level of entitled complaining I overheard was unreal. Yes, I understand people traveled for the event, and at one point, three of the five nighttime ERT coasters were down—which could have been a disaster. But Cedar Point quickly pivoted and added Wilderness Run, Gemini, and Millennium Force to the already incredible lineup of Maverick, Steel Vengeance, and Magnun. How are people still finding things to whine about?
I even heard someone complain about the view from the boat ride… as if Cedar Point controls the weather and can magically clear fog.
Heading to dinner, I honestly worried that all the entitled behavior might cause the park to reconsider doing this event at all. Thankfully, Tony came out and announced that everyone would receive a Fast Lane Plus (valid any day and transferable) and an all-day drink wristband—also transferable. Just those two things alone are worth more than the price of a Coastermania ticket.
If you’re still complaining after that, nothing will ever be enough to make you feel ‘made whole’. Cedar Point didn’t have to do anything—but they went above and beyond to take care of their fans. That’s something I really appreciate.
And all the park did by awarding these people a fast lane and drink band is reinforce the entitled behavior and mind set that they have. Prior to my last post in this thread I was talking to a great group of people from South Carolina at the Grand Pavilion bar. They were here for 3 nights at Breakers with tickets, drink and meal passes. Cedar Point made more money off of them than they’ll see in the next 5 years off the typical CoasterMania enthusiast. Why didn’t they get something for TT2 being shut down? The park told them to pound sand… I felt bad for them even though they weren’t complaining, just said it was disappointing. I gave them our single use fast lanes and they were so grateful for it. Those are the people the park should be taking care of.
Expect that Cedar Point understands the concepts that you can't please everyone and some people can find something to complain about in any situation. Neither is a new concept. Also not unique to coaster enthusiasts or even amusement parks. Internet just lets that type of people find each other. And those people are often more vocal than people who are not so inclined.
Presumably the park didn't look at trying to appease one group or another. Or favor one group or another. They just made the decisions that they thought were right given the circumstances. Nature of making decisions that not everyone will agree.
