Coastermania questions from a newbee...

Hi everyone, I'm brand new here. I live in Washington State and have always wanted to visit Cedar Point; one of the few "major" parks I have not yet been to.

Well, this year it looks like I finally have the opportunity to attend coastermania on June 2nd.

I'm wondering if anyone can give me information on this event. I am an ACE member, but are there a limited amount of tickets given out? Are the crowds bad? Where to stay? Is the event worth it for someone coming from across the country?

Thanks so much for your help in advance.

No limit (that I've ever been aware of) to the amount of tickets they give out. The crowds vary, but are generally much much ligther then than they are in say, July. Morning ERT on the big rides can tend to not feel so exclusive, but the night time ERT thins out pretty fast. Shouldn't matter where you stay. A CP resort will get you the early entry if you plan to visit for more than one day. If you're only going for Coatermania, you won't need early entry from the resorts. I'd travel across the country for it.

And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

If your staying for a couple of nights, Lighthouse Point is the best way to stay, IMO. You can avoid the high cost of park/restaurant food by using the microwave and outside grill. We've found bringing an electric skillet opens up even more options. It may not be the best option for you if you are flying...packing for a cabin stay may be an issue.

Ohh MrScott, how you love Lighthouse Point. But hey, who can blame you? What a beautiful place. I will second his recommendation

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

Thanks everyone who has responed.

Can you buy tickets in advance, or must you purchase the day of the event?

I believe you can only purchase the actual event tickets the morning of the event. Meaning you can only get your button and meal tickets Friday morning.
We too will be doing Lighthouse Point this year. Let's hope the muffleheads aren't too bad. I remember staying in the cabins the first year they opened and being swarmed with the bugs in the cabin during Coastermania.

Coastermania is always very fun for me to attend with my family and such. Ive always been glad to meet new ACER's there, along with some Coaster Zombies. Since I'm an Ohio member, I believe I have ridden the morning coasters enough (how is that possible to say?), so I won't comment on those, but that night time ERT on Mangum XL-200 blows everything away. It's very easy to rack up 15 + rides, unless of cours everyone stays, but you cannot miss that.
