Coastermania Comments

First off, thanks goes to Cedar Point's public relations department for making Coastermania mostly well worthwhile even though TTD was down. I say mostly, because replacing TTD with MF was a good idea, but they could have opened another ride that morning...the lines made ERT more like SERT (Somewhat Exclusive Ride Time)

The Q/A session was interesting, mainly due to the fact that the park was a little more open to us "enthusiasts" than would be with the general public. However, some of the answers were a little odd:

When asked of the tires, Monty Jasper seemed, in his tone of voice, to be leaning towards added capacity, which shocked me. I thought that it was just a rumor, but the fact remains: they can engineer a 420 FT coaster, but give up on tires and an engine?

When asked of the wall, Bill Sphen replied that the infield area was for storage. Um, okay. The entire area is visible on the grandstand side. So, what's the difference?

The most common response was: "we are discussing with the manufacturer....", I figured that there would be a standard response used with unanswerable questions...:)

The boarding passes were awesome. I was able to get front seat for MF in under 10 minutes. I plan to wait until July 4th to use my Dragster pass...

The picnic lunch was really good. Of course, any free food from Cedar Point is, in my eyes, really good.

Hopefully Coastermania '04 will have the scheduled rides available, but I was smart about it, I went in not wanting to ride TTD, because there were other rides to ride, including front seat, first car, Raptor. Awesome. Thank you Cedar Point!

I'll agree, I had a blast at Coastermania. The front of the line passes more than made up for Dragster being down.

Honest truth told to me by marina gate readmissions host:

Host: Hand stamped, two cents.

Me: That's cool, I think I have two cents.

Host: I better not take it, by the time you leave here its all you'll have.

One thing I noticed, and wanted to see if anyone else did, was that the Coastermania pins seemed to tell the ride ops "staple me, please." I may have had one or two rides all day where I didn't get stapled. They were yanking the seat belts too, not just lap bars. My friend had his badge on his pant leg where it was less noticeable, and did not get stapled. I figured something like this would be the case after the Raven incident, but I just wanted to see if anyone else noticed this.

Oh, and I should add, I loved CM. The park showed true class in the way it made up for TTD being down. Except for the ERT on Disaster Transport. What was up with that?

Yeah I hear you on the stapling. It was much worse for me during CM (with the button on) than it has ever been on a normal day. :( Nonetheless it was a fun (and tiring) day!

After the Raven incident, I'm not surprised that enthusiasts were stapled.

Florida may have Disney World and Key West,
but Ohio has Cedar Point and Put-In-Bay.
It's great to live in Ohio!

Agreed. It's sad, and I hope it doesn't last, because there's no need for the kind of stapling we're seeing (I was in PAIN on Millennium Force on Friday before we'd even left the station, not that it stopped me from riding again ;) )

Ms. Fellner's death was tragic, and I understand the parks wanting to be more careful, but let's not OVERreact, please.

What happen to Ms. Fellner?

Ms Fellner fell out of the Raven at Holiday World. According to the Evansville newspaper, it was reported that she was virtually standing up at several points along the ride according to witnesses that saw her. Somewhere along the ride, she fell out of the train and reportedly fell 60-80 feet and suffered massive neck and chest trauma. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Beyond "virtually standing up", Tamar Fellner (seemingly) intentionally undid her seatbelt. The preliminary results of the well-done investigation are up on Holiday World's site.

Speaking of stapling, I made a critical rookie mistake. I didn't want to poke a hole in my shirt for the badge so I simply buckled it around a belt loop in my shorts.

After a good staple or two I was in some serious pain thanks to that bonehead move.

Live and learn.

I was stapled on all the coasters and I didn't suffer any pain and I had a fantastic time. CP Rocks!

You can't blame cp for the stapling after what happened at Holiday World.
