CoasterCon 2004

Can anyone tell me (ACE was no help I called-I was told they were under new management);

Where does this $275 go to? Isn't that a lot considering Coastermania is FREE?

Does this include free admission to all host parks?

Why not prorate the cost, what if I don't want to go to Six Flags or Memphis Kiddypark?

Why don't we season pass holders get a discount?

Yeah I was thinking this too....I would be up for Con if we could go for half the trip and pay half or something like that.....and not be made to pay the $275. I was wondering if they had a discount to season pass holders as well, I don't believe they do but I could be wrong.

I'm waiting to see the Midway Olympics.. the 10 yard Krispy Kreme dash..
The "Filing out a guest complaint because our ERT wasn't long enough" speed writing contest.

This could be fun..

10 yards! That's awfully far unless the donuts are gravy-filled.
No discount for season pass holders and no proration if you don't/can't go to one of the parks, never has been, never will. The $275 covers admission, ERT, certain meals and parking. You still have to pay for your lodging on top of the $275.

If you want full details, http://www.aceonline.org/flyers/CoasterCon2004.pdf.

I went to an ACE covention at Kennywood and it was a lot of fun. I know ACE has been given a lot of bad press lately but it is a nice club to join. I am thrilled to see CP get to co-host the event. I do like SFWoA.{sorry guys but I do} and Memphis Kiddie Park is a hidden treasure as it is one of the few remaing urban kiddie parks that propped up in the 1950s as a response to the baby boom. The park has not changed much and they have a putt-putt course.
There is no way that CP and SFWoA would be worth $275 for me. It's a shame, because I was considering popping by Con. if it weren't so outrageous.

I guess I'll just go to PKI that weekend then, eh?

I'm GLAD its so expensive, they could raise the price another $100 and I would still go. The higher the price, the lower the crowds, the quality and value of the event goes up!

With itty bitty (read: under 4 feet tall) kids, I have zero plans to attend Con (or nearly any other event except perhaps BeastBuzz), but I had the same thoughts. Not cheap == no huddled masses.
Unfortunately there will still be huddled masses in the park, just not for ERT.

$275 is just too much for my tastes considering I have a season pass to CP and practically live there over the summer.

Beastbuzz, on the other hand, is a must.

Of course we all know the best ERT we can get is on a Halloweekends Friday. ;)

Amen. However, I expect non-enthusiast (I don't want to get flamed for use of "GP") crowds. But all things considered, you get four days so you can get your fill.

It seems to me that something like Con is most useful if it is held at a set of parks that you might not normally visit. An excuse to travel, and a nearly guaranteed way of getting your fill of amusement park fun.
I have to say that $ 275 seemed to me like an awful lot of money for the event, initially. The combined price of season passes for SFWoA and CP (if you buy them at the appropriate times) is a little over half of this.

But if you throw in the 9 breakfast/picnic/receptions + banquet, that leaves those at around $ 10.00 per meal, even if you don't factor in any costs for managing/organising the event and so on. And from my experience at Coastermania and and the ACE event at SFWoA last year, I'll bet that those 9 meals + banquet will provide more food than anyone could eat.

So $275 is probably not that far off the mark for what it costs to host/manage the event. And the parks don't OWE it to anyone to do it at a discount/money-losing/free rate.

Having said all that in defence of the price, what really pissed me off is the lack of a pro-rated system - its unforgiveable. I know already that there is NO WAY that I will be able to attend on every day due to work pressures; *maybe* I'd be able to make it for 2 days in the week. But I'm not forking out $275 for that, particularly since I have a season pass.

Heck, last year I got more than 23 hours of ERT out of Joe Cool!

Brian.. I'd be willing to bet alot of the people who are attending don't visit CP or SFWoA on a regular basis.

I think we take it for granted because it's our back yard. I'm willing to bet peopel who attend Magic Mountain all the time would say the same thing if it was held there.

Exactly, Rob. Even at $275, this Con is very tempting for people who don't get to Cedar Point often (or have never been there at all).

I do not see smaller crowds even at this price. I do like the concept though Dan.

Coastermania is sponsered by Cedar Point for any recognized amusiment park enthusiasts group, the ACE Convention is a event sponsered by ACE for ACE members.

Does this include free admission to all host parks?

The coast of $275 pays for the addmission to all host parks and much more, this is explained best in the Coaster Con flier that is on the ACE web page.

Why not prorate the cost, what if I don't want to go to Six Flags or Memphis Kiddypark?

The other parks are all part of the Con so it is all inclusive.

Why don't we season pass holders get a discount?

If you look at the flier and see all the perks that you get such as ERT, many meals, programs, and much much more you would understand.

What about the 23+ hours of E.R.T.? We get Dragster and Millie twice for two hours each. In fact, there is E.R.T. scheduled for every coaster except for Jr. Gemini. But yes $275 is a lot of money, but it's an event that runs Sunday thru Saturday. I'm sure the parks will go through a lot of trouble to make this event a success and an enjoyable experience for those attending.
