Coaster Openings- "Boom's" and "Bust's"

Has there ever been a coaster that was opened and not a big hit it's first season? (of course to disregaurd kiddie coasters) I've only been going to the park since 1988 so I remember Magnum's opening. Every coaster since then have all been big hit's- Mean Streak, Raptor, Mantis, WT, MF and of course TTD. Those were all record-breaking coasters. What has happened when a non-recordbreaking coasetr is introduced to Cedar Point? Is it just blown off and the big coasters still remain on top? The coasters I'm talking about are coasters such as Wildcat, Iron Dragon, and Mine Ride.
Thanks!

Sunday, Sunday, Sunday! Are your ready for some speed? We've got 120 miles per hour! Are you ready to get vertical? We've got 420 feet. Are you ready for the tallest and fastest rollercoaster in the world?! ARE YOU READY FOR TOP THRILL DRAGSTER?!?
Well, Iron Dragon was the first of its kind in the Midwest so that was something to be excited about. As far as Wildcat and CCMR go, while they didn't break any records I know of, they were still new.

Was anyone there for Woodstock's Express' debut? : )

Race For The Sky!

I wouldn't say WT was a huge hit.

I would say Avalanche Run

I disagree. Although Wicked Twister had a few downtime issues and a guy welding it every six minutes, I think the ride was a great addition. For one, look at its location. The spikes right next to the lake are fantastic, the whole midway was revived, and now looks a whole heck of a lot better than it did. The entrance plaza and flags topped it off.

I have never heard somone coming off WT not loving the thing. It is intense, smooth, and even better towards the back (yes I know the screw joke). Thanks for listening :)

What is the screw joke?

For me, Iron Dragon was a big let down. I had already ridden Big Bad Wolf at Busch Gardens and was expecting a similiar ride. I remember waiting in a really long 2+ hour line. At one point, one of the riders who was on a train entering the station yelled down that we should all get out of line because the ride wasn't worth it!

When someone likes the back seat of Wicked Twister they say some thing like:

"Getting screwed in the back has never been so much fun!"

Cedar Point, The Roller Coast!!
I agree with RPMGuitar, Iron Dragon was a big letdown after standing in line for 2 1/2 hours. Can you imagine doing that today?

Avalanche Run wasn't as exciting as I expected it to be either. That too was a long wait out in the blazing sun.

My mom worked on the Mine Ride in the summer of '72 (3 years after it debuted) and she tells me that it was considered a very popular (sometimes even feared!) attraction back then. So, I suppose you just have to look at all rides in the context of when they were built. It seems like every ride had its heyday...but also, not every ride can be timeless.

The Mine Ride was almost a signature attraction back when it opened. They ran five trains, and the line was still long. I think CP only had three coasters in 1969, Mine Ride, Blue Streak and Scamper. People used to run to it after getting off the train.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

I remember that as well, and the entrance to CCMR was where the boarded up "mine" is now. Although I don't recall standing in really long lines for it. I guess compared to the smaller lines it has now, the lines would be considered long.
