I wasn't sure if Cedar Point would have to sell them or what the deal is, but are there any model building kits out there for rollercoasters?...even playing with Lego made coasters would be an awesome fun filled day for me....what can I say? I'm still a kid at heart!

I own a model of the Blue Streak which I made at least five years ago, but it wasn't a kit. Oddly enough, it was really easy to make.

There is a HO scale model kit of a rollercoaster you can build for model trains. I never bought it because it was over $100, but the last time I saw it was only like $70? Check with your local hobby shop. The company that made the kit is quite popular, they should know about it. It was motorized and everything. I will post again when I find the company and it's name :)

:) "Did you know this goes up-side down" :)
The company name is "Faller" and the name of the coaster is "Big Dipper". Use a search engine and type Faller "Big Dipper". I got a few web pages on this model. I don't know the Faller website. I heard it's not that good concerning this item.
I like the toothpick idea. It would get you through the winter.

I have a Faller kit, it is called Wilde Maus. I am not done yet. But these kits are really detailed, and work as well. I was going to get a log flume, by Faller, but it was some where around $180.
Try K'NEX Rollercoaster
You can make two different version Spiral and Looping. Great Fun for a $100.
I am also building the Faller Wild Maus. It is pretty challenging, but now that I have all the track in place and the cars built, it is pretty cool.
I also have Spacewarp sets, and the k'nex roller coaster (mwatts, I got mine for $50 on eBay). Both are fun to play with and can be rebuilt into new layouts.

I am working a model of Magnum, it is going to take years to complete. The height of the lift hill is going to be about 4 feet high. It is going to have a mini computer control system & lights going up the lift high. All together it will cost me about 500+ dollars.
Andrew do you have any pictures of your coaster? Can I see them?
Heres some model roller coaster pages

I do not have any pictures yet, B-Town. I am designing it right now, and making some small test parts. I will start "Vertical" constuction soon and I will take some pictures and post them.
Ok, that would be great, Andrew. I want to start building on from skrap too, I just cant think, and come up with a design.
Funny this came up, even though not a CP coaster, I'm building Superman:Ride of Steel from SFDarien lake. I give it about two weeks and it'll be finished. Also, my next project will be Millennium. I'm designing trains at the moment, but it's tough dealing with parts that small, and alot of them.

Are you guys building working models or just models to represent the coasters?
I've always wanted to make one, but I don't know where I'd put it, and they are rather expensive
My model will be a working model. It will be operated by compressed air for the brakes and a chain will pull the train up the lift hill.
This guy has an excellent idea, so everyone show their support by emailing him.

bobthetomato, I was reading that guys idea a few days ago, and I think its a really good idea. I would buy if it look a little more challenging.
Andrew how are you going to use compressed air for your brakes? A compressor? Do you have some plans I could see? I wont copy them.
rOLLocoASt, I want to build the Millennium Force too , but the track is really complex, so I probably start building the lift hill, and see how complex it is. First I have to finish with the Faller kit, and a model ship.
Yes I would use a compressor( a small model one). I got the idea from a model garden railroad magazine. If you want I could scan part of the magazine and email it to you.
Yes please, my email is leafbag111@aol.com
Ok I will try(my scanner sometimes works sometimes dosen't). It may take a couple of days.
