Coaster Intensity Ranking (for new riders)

buckeyesbrownsindianscavs's avatar

So this is for the situation when you are taking a child on a ride and you don't know if you can take him/her on said ride immediately or get your child on milder coasters to get their feet wet.(this scale goes from mildest to holy crap I'm gonna pee myself scary)

1. Jr. Gemini: very mild even for a children's coaster. no intensity whatsoever.

2. Woodstock Express: now we're talking. Kids love this ride.

3.Cedar Creek Mine Ride: good family ride (if you can fit. I'm 5'7 and only 125 lbs and I get crammed on that ride. no leg room.)

4.Iron Dragon: a little more intense than CCMR because the seats swing.

5. Corkscrew: Now we're stepping it up, first coaster with Inversions, 3 of them to be exact, and speeds over 40 mph. first bigger coaster.

6. Blue Streak: may look old and rickety, but grandpa Blue Streak still packs a mean punch for it's 80 foot hill, reaching 50+ mph speeds, if you are new to airtime, this is a trial by fire. Half the ride you are floating.

7. Gemini: Ready, Set, GO! this racer has 2 trains instead of 1, giving it a competitive edge to an already really fun ride.

8. Mean Streak: Blue Streak's delinquent son, if you are expecting a smooth ride, ooh, you got another thing coming, this thing roughs you up for 3 minutes nonstop. HURTS VERY BAD!(should be taken out)

9. Magnum XL 200: The first of the fearsome foursome, this baby started the coaster wars. 205 feet tall, 72 mph. very intense.

10. Raptor: NEVER EAT BEFORE YOU GO ON RAPTOR! just don't do it.

11. Mantis: If you are a guy, wear a cup when you are on this ride.

12. Gatekeeper: Being Beside the track and not on it is a very disorienting.

13. Wicked Twister: 2nd of the fearsome foursome, just thinking about it makes me seasick, you go back and forth and twisting on the ride towers.

14. Maverick: That 95 degree drop. all I gotta say.

15.Millennium Force: 3rd of the fearsome foursome. words cannot express the awesome that is this ride.

16. Top Thrill Dragster: 4th of the fearsome foursome, biggest adrenaline rush in all of Ohio. Maybe all of the Midwest. only 20 seconds long but oh, boy does it make the most of it.

The god of speculation

I am so thankful that my child, even at 5.5 last year, loves the big rides! She is loading up on veggies so she can get that one more inch this year to do wicked twister!

The only thing I would change on your list is to flip Iron Dragon and CCMR. When I was a kid, that drop to the water on CCMR used to scare the crap out of me. LOL. Just me but I would put my kid on Iron Dragon before I took them on CCMR.

^ even the minimum height suggests so!

When you visit CP, visit my Mill, est. 1835

I would switch CCMR and Iron Dragon. Also would switch Magnum and MF. MF has the height and speed, but the ejector air of magnum makes it more intense.

Being probably the closest to a child out of anyone on the site, I would say your original order was correct. Millennium, in my opinion, is far more thrilling than Magnum. Magnum's little bunny hops at the end do supply airtime, but detract from the overall ride experience because they are painful. Also, Iron Dragon is more thrilling than CCMR in my opinion, because it's a different setup. (swinging and OTSRs)

I agree with your list. This is a good idea.

^What's up with all these kids on this site? ;) Everyone knows high schoolers are the best!

Anyway, the more I've thought about it, maybe I'd put Iron Dragon ahead of CCMR. I don't know, these two are tough. Mine Ride has the more out of control, speedy feel while Iron Dragon has the more "big coaster" feel, especially with the OTSRs.

Haha I'm not sure if you wanna start calling everyone on here old...But I'm glad so many younger (no offense toward anyone on here :) ) people use this site. It's awesome, and I love the updates and off season tours.

So is 13 the youngest member on here? Not like it matters but it's cool that kids are on here. I started reading on this site a while ago but didn't register until last year.

CP doesn't care about your age, only your height & weight. :)

I'm 12 what is this ^_^

Man I think I was 17 when I came here originally, not too sure, I lurked a bit during the dragster construction during the old phases of this site and all that.

This all reminds me of the slideshow Walt put together about pointbuzz during one of the off season tours

Speaking of which, any Pointbuzz events during the year scheduled ;)

I'm 15, and I only started riding coasters about 3 years ago. I definitely agree with this list!

Top 5 at CP: 1)Millenium Force, 2)Top Thrill Dragster, 3)Gatekeeper, 4)Magnum XL-200, 5)Mean Streak

I agree with your line up. Amazing to have such a list though, when I was a little guy, there was only BS and CCMR and I remember when Jumbo Jet was the big boy in the park.

Too bad they have two less beginner coasters to have on your list (DT and WC). My son graduated from those a a number of years ago, though we still road them once in a while. I was looking forward to riding them with my grandson (he is a Jr. Gemini student currently). Hopefully something in the junior coaster range (<48" height requirement- a family coaster that adults fit on comfortably) will be added to the list in the future.
