Coaster Breakdowns!

Hey Point Buzzers! ive been reading GTTP and point buzz for a long time but am a new member (as of today) and hope i can contribute to the CP community! I was just wondering if anyone knew why all the rides were breaking down. This morning was my last day at the point after my long weekend and after the saturday night breakdown of TTD i was dissapointed to walk onto Wicked Twister and have it breakdown. About 40 minutes later Gemini was stopped on the lift hill and half way through the ride. There were people on both trains and there were ride ops on the lift hill to comfort the passengers. For the best amusement park on the planet this was a little dissapointing. i was also wondering if they have enough maitnence staff at CP? b/c when dragster goes down it seems all the maitenece workers are there and if another ride goes down they are tied up at TTD and cant respond to the other rides. well i hope that was a good first entry and im excited to finally become a "point buzzer"

Machines break down. That's just what happens. However, it's not "all the rides" and it's not statistically significant. The park on average, all rides combined, including weather and closures for yacking/urination or whatever, keep the rides down about 4% of the time. That ain't bad.

I was also there Sunday, and was disappointed with TTD and WT. Around noon, TTD was up and running smoothly for maybe 10 minutes. WT opened around 2. What do you know, on our way home, we left around 5, I looked back from the causeway and I seen TTD launch a train. I don't know if it was loaded or not though. But go figure. I also seen that the Gemini was stuck in an odd spot....not on a lift hill, and not where there are breaks....strange.

It's not a huge deal to me, considering we go at least once a week, but I relly feel for the people that only visit once a year.

the rides could not always break down it could have been on gemini a non fastend seat belt or a guest screaming to get off. if you have a good op and he hears you screaming they'll stop the ride.
It was the red train and it was stuck there for a good half hour. I thought of a scared guest or a seatbelt problem, but that couldn't be considering the length of time that it was just sitting there. Like I said, it was at a spot where there were no breaks, and it wasn't on a lift hill. It was very strange!
If a train is sitting somewhere with no brakes and not on the lift, then theres a 99.99% chance that it rolled back.
It is rare that a large amount of coasters are out at the same time, unless it is raining or lightning has been spotted in the area.

Just be patient... the rides close for a reason!

I was at the point yesterday and it poured the entire day...non-stop... It got to the point where i seriously was worried for my health, it was freezing cold and wet...There were almost no places to dry off and re-collect yourself... Donut time was there and I got a hot chocolate but it was crammed to bursting... Disaster transport was even closed... People were fleeing to the bath rooms because the bathrooms were about 25 degrees warmer than outside.. All I'm saying is that Cedar Point definatley needs more accomadations for poor weather...
They do. They're called "July" and "August"!

Cry me a river... I've been in the park on days where the employees outnumbered the guests. If the weather is going to suck, don't go! If you're already staying there, retreat to your hotel!

Do you want some cheese to go with that whine? Do you need some ketchup to go with those french cries?

I can't believe all the complaints here and it is only early JUNE!! :(

It's all about getting around the barrels, or over the fences, right leads, no faults, fastest time and looking pretty when done. What's so hard about that?

Ignore 'em.

The Hotels and Lighthouse Point are extremely fun, too. The rides (for me) really are secondary.

Just being there is enough for me. :)

life can be hard, but i only slightly feel for those who travel more than 6 hours and only get to go one trip a season.

I live 3 hours or so away, and have a season pass,so I really dont mind when i catch a bad day, but when me and a friend went to PKD in 2001, we got PKI passes, camped at the park, and left Jamestown settlement and Virginia Beach as things to do on bad days.

One trip back around 1998 (Is it just me or is that about the year july and august seemed to start being busier than tolerable?) We caught a day where power tower was a 3 hour wait.So we hopped in car and headed to Kennywood.

I compare rides being down to car troubles. Many times its due to wear type parts, and a minor pain in the butt, but what can ya do if an item of wear gives out before you expect it to?

I'm an hour away from MiAdv, 5 hrs from CP. Ya just find other things to do if rides are down.

the only real significant problem with cedar point rides right now is top thrill dragster. as long as the ride is working it's amazing. but it is down much too often, usually because of numerous breakdowns, although weather does play a factor in it as well. i was on the park june 8 and 9 and throughout those two days i know of TTD breaking down at least 9 times, and on the 8 i didn go into the park until 5. of the 5 rides i had during those two days, it broke down for at least a half an hour while i was waiting in line.

I wish some people would understand nothing is perfect. Never has, never is, and never will be perfect. It can get close, but never exact.

It's a fact of life, yet some people like to make a deal about it. I can understand why some people get outraged about this. They are infuenced by the high price tag to enter, or maybe the long drive/gas prices, etc?

I've worked 4 years at KP and I know first hand that people really can get out of whack over something small such as the Goblet Pitch being closed. I'm not trying to complain, but sometimes, people should simply say, "Oh well, we'll try again some other time!" and go finish out your day in a great fashion.

In summary, nothing's perfect; take it easy and try again some other time. I don't get angry when something's down, I simply do other things and enjoy myself.

Indy's back and just in time.

A good check of the weather at weather.com always is a good idea. Not that a sudden storm can't rush in, but generally, I go with the weather predictions from there.
I know what you're saying, I have no desire for TTD to be perfect. I just would like them to get it to a decent level of uptime, similar to MF or magnum. That would be the close to perfect that you speak of.

Consider people who are not able to go to the parks but once a year. They'd probably get ticked off if they were not able to ride it that day because they can't simply blow it off and ride it some other time soon. They might have to wait a few years. So consider the breakdown problems from someone elses point of view.

Go Ravens and Lakers, don't worry, we'll bounce back.

X at SFMM is frickin awesome, it's a must ride for all coaster fans.
