Closing Early

someone posted a topic of how great cedar point's night life is.

and i think it is the greatest thing to ride coasters at night. i love the lighting of the rides. so why does cedar point close so early that you only get one hour of darkness. i think that cedar point should close at midnight on most days they currnetly close at 10, and close at 1 am on nights they currently close at 11. whay do you think.

well that would be great but you have to think about the employees who have to work a O/C or the work that is done to the rides at night so they are ready for the next day. These employees would get wore out really quick. and i think it would cause more down time for coasters and none of us like that.

I'll reply from a former CP employee's viewpoint: I would have shot myself if I didn't get out of work until 3am because of a 1am closing time.

Cedar Point is open for plenty of hours (13-14 hours most of the season). The seasons are what controls how many hours of darkness you get, not the park, so just go later in the season when you get more hours of darkness if you like it that much.

Side thought: I know they used to keep the park open till midnight on Saturdays, in July and maybe August, at least when I worked there. It was complete h*ll, especially when I had to open the next morning.

While I agree riding the coasters at night is fun, in all honesty staying open that late really makes no sense. When I go to the park, by 8 or 9 o'clock I have ridden everything and am tired as can be. Most people wouldn't stay that late, and it wouldn't be worth the extra money it would cost the park to stay open that extra 1 or 2 hours.

Cedar Point rocks my socks.

So, did this really need its own topic?

I mean, I'm not trying to play armchair mod here, but damn...

-Josh

everyone here tries to play Mod, seems like every single topic I read has a smart arse in it going "does this really need to be said"?

Lighten up people, if you dont like the topic, don't read it or reply to it

Its an honest question, with some good discussion that could happen. Its extremely unlikely to ever happen though, at least until they hand out speed to the ride ops at the beginning of their shifts. Somehow I think the state would have a problem with that though.

What if there were a consistant work shifts. Then the people that work at night always work at night and the morning people always work the morning shift. To me this is very possible.

If you like spending time in the park after dark, Halloweekend Friday and Saturdays are perfect for you. It gets dark by 7 or so, and the park is open until midnight both nights.

And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

I think the idea of staying open later is a great idea, but i would hate to be the ones working there during the day.

One really bad example of this is say the park stays open until 1AM, employess that are working rides have to stay at the ride until everybody gets to ride. For rides like Millienium and Dragster that could be an extra 2 hrs. If that same employee has to work the next day, he would be exhausted.

Its a great idea, but Cedar Point would have to have shifts for the employees, I hope to see it in time, but I'm not expecting it anytime soon.

While in line count time between trains on track, divide that number by waiting time on front sign, multiply that number by number of people per train, and you'll get an approximate number of people in line!

They've probably calculated the value of staying open additional hours and decided its not worth it. Otherwise they would be. They're open til Midnight during Halloweekends, which is nice, but then they don't open till noon or later.

I'm sure it's all about economics. If they thought they could make more money than it would cost to stay open later, they'd do it.

Mr Scott, you hit the nail square on the head...............

This is why I'm not a fan of daylight savings time. With Ohio being on the western edge of the time zone, at the height of the summer we can still see light in the sky till 9:30 or so. It really cuts into that night time ride time. (When I visited parks on the east coast I noticed it got dark a lot earlier.)

There are parks that, as a rule, keep later hours- Kennywood and Pavilion come to mind. But they also open for the day a lot later, not getting onto full swing till after noon or so.

It's better for Cedar Point to keep the early schedule, keeps the guests and employees a lot happier in the long run.

Does anyone else think that a Cedar Point "all night party" would be a cool idea? I have always thought how sweet it would be to get some sort of special ticket and be able to enter the park at 6pm and then it closed at like 6am or something? It would be amazing to be in the park all night as opposed to all day dont you think? What a great idea for a special event!!!

Cedar Point - An adventure waiting for everyone.

That would be pretty neat.

That would never work from an employees state of view. As it is now we generally get of of there around 12:30 AM, and then if you open the next day (which you usually have to), then you have to be back at 8:00 AM. That's only 7.5 hours, in which you have to shower, eat, sleep, and do whatever else needs done...if you cut that down even more everyone would quit.

Which if they did I'm sure they could adjust shifts to cope with the hours.

They don't and wouldn't. They'd just expect everyone to be bigger slaves.

Refer to my above post:

I'm sure it's all about economics. If they thought they could make more money than it would cost to stay open later, they'd do it.

They would do that if it made good economic sense. I would think that it does not, as they have shortened their operating hours this past year or 2.

One thing is for sure, Cedar Point knows how to make money. And, really, that is what what it's all about.
