Claims of a basement...perhaps not all false...

Remember early in the season when employees claimed that they saw a basement which is why some people thought it was a restaurant? Perhaps this wasn't all false.

I was reading the article in Amusement Today that features Xcelerator. It says, "Xcelerator's dual using nitrogen-gas hydraulic engines are buried under the ground in a sealed concrete chamber with walls more than six feet thick. The chambers not only contains the hydraulics, but dampens the noise.

I didn't follow Xcelerator's construction very closely, so I wasn't aware of this until now.

Perhaps Cedar Point and Intamin wanted to construct this portion of the ride first so as not to wait for it to cure and delay the contruction after the announcement. Maybe Cedar Point wanted to kill two birds with one stone by using the outer "walls" as footers for one of the towers, and part of the inner "footer" as an empty cavity for the hydraulics to sit in.

This would explain the alleged "basement" that many employees witnessed. What do you guys think?

The said basement would be a perfect location for hydraulic equipment....

The opening to the basement would be under the tarp...

I can't find it but earlier in the year someone said that there was more concrete buried...

And there was a lot of sand on the island for just those two footers...

Six foot thick walls? They sure didn't look that thick to me when Twisted Rails was covering the construction...

I guess technically the one piece is six feet thick, but it's not an outside wall,it looks to have pipes going through it. Those round concrete/rebar supports sure look like the ones in the pictures from behind the Area 51 Wall, of course, most every other support at CP looks like that too...
Ah hah...I knew it. In the 'Jeff's Clues' forum I said this the other day:

Jeff said, "Shut my hole"....hmmm. Is it possible that the blue tarp in Area 51 is covering up a big hole? Maybe this *attraction* will be going underground.

I meant to comment on the blue tarp in my initial post, but I forgot. It could be covering the entrance to the hydraulic bunker or covering pipes from the tanks.

Can we call the alleged basement/bunker Hangar 18 of Area 51? :)

(Hangar 18 is supposedly where the aliens are kept, I/E the Flight of Fear theme at PKI)

The walls look to be around 6 feet high, not wide.

"Wheres the Callahan factory?!?!?"

With the mentioning of the tarp coving the hole you have settled any feelings of un-rest that i may have had as to what was going to be built things definately make sense now. And i have one question did supreme scream at knotts come before Power Tower??

What the hell are you guys talking about? The hole that contains the hydraulic equipment for Xcelerator is on the order of 40 feet wide! That tarp could barely cover a tricycle.

Oh well, I was thinking that they went ahead a put a roof on the basement and covered it with dirt and the tarp was just covering the entryway.

And how exactly would they get Giant Nitrogen tanks and other hardware into the tiny hole?

Welcome back Magnum riders how was your ride?

They could have already installed them which I think is unlikely, or they could have constructed a temporary roof over the enclosure, and covered it up with dirt.

I really don't know if any of this is true, I just think that many employees saw a basement, not a big giant solid block of concrete being poured.

I was joking in both the "Clues" thread and in this thread about the "Shut my hole" comment. I was making light of the coincidence regarding the subject matter of this thread being related to a hole.

Perhaps the tarp is there to just protect something from the rain, and not to cover it up from the international theme park spies (us).
